Good free website hosting

Hello!
I am looking for a website that can provide a decent web hosting. I don't even really specially need web hosting, I need to make an online website with some pages, text, images and files to download. I used Wordpress at 000webhost, but my IP got reported as spam bot and now I have trouble accessing the site.
I am not asking for just any hosting or service, I am looking to get a fairly simple website that runs on free software. I just wrote web hosting because I know that works and I already tried it. I know that Tumblr allows you to put up some pages, images and files, but it's not free software, therefore I refuse to use it.
I tried out Red Matrix, since that seems to be free software, but it doesn't seem to do what I need it to do. I'm not actually sure how it works, at all.
So if anyone knows any decent and free (as in freedom) website or web hosting, please share your knowledge, it would be appreciated :)
What about WordPress.com? I doesn't have any personal experience with it though.
No custom design for the free version... well, that is not ideal, but it would be sufficient. I am a little worried about lack of customization, though. I prefer not having too many restrictions (By that I mean, the service offers a lot of them, but most of them are not offered for the free version.)
I will remember this as an option if I can't find anything better, though. Thank you :)
Well, you can use ShoutWiki if you don't mind using a wiki style interface filled with some ads (ad-free if you'll gonna pay for it). Since it's based on MediaWiki, it'll allow you to customize your site through CSS, so the potential for customization is practically endless (see Wikipedia vs. Wikia for comparison). Also, the staff there is very friendly and responsive.
Good information,, I'm going to try them out.
Thank You
Actually, a Wiki could work very well. Thank you for the suggestion, I'm definitely going to try ShoutWiki out!
The custom design is overblown, anyway. There are one or two things I would customize on my WordPress blog, but there is a theme for virtually every purpose imaginable, and you could easily find something that does almost exactly what you want. Especially if all you want is a simple website without all the hassle of hosting your own, WordPress is a good choice.
I've been using openshift.com to host my website. It's by Red Hat and runs on free software. For a simple website choose the "diy" cartridge and you must use SSH keys and git on your local machine to manage and upload your web pages, documents, and media into the app root. The free account gets you 1GB of storage and RAM. For example, mine is here - http://www.noxbanners.net/
I took a look at it, but it seemed like it targets users who know what they are doing with technology. Also, SSH keys and git? While Red Hat is a great company I like and respect, I will probably look into simpler solutions here. But thank you for suggestion! :)
YW. To be honest I'd probably be using a simpler solution if I'd found one first.
Hey Eric,
I'm trying to install Ruby, Ruby Gems, and Git, to try OpenShift. I followed the Ubuntu instructions here:
https://developers.openshift.com/en/getting-started-client-tools.html#ubuntu
I'm using Trisquel 7. Do you know what the problem might be?
sudo apt-get install ruby-full rubygems git-core
[sudo] password for muhammed:
no talloc stackframe at ../source3/param/loadparm.c:4864, leaking memory
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree

sudo apt-get install ruby rubygems git-core
This is the first I have heard of openshift, thanks for sharing!
@Muhammed, ask your question in a new topic. Anyway, this is a bug in Trisquel 7, https://trisquel.info/en/issues/12455
Thanks akfoss
