I would like to know how to convert an Ubuntu install into a Trisquel install step by step. If possible, I would appreciate as much detail as possible. At the very least, I would like to know how to remove the Ubuntu Linux kernel for Ubuntu 14.04 32 bit edition and instead use the Linux-libre kernel used in Trisquel 7.0 32 bit edition. I don't have any experience with installing new kernels, and am very apprehensive about doing it. I know that if one messes up the kernel, the whole computer could be messed up. So, the steps for installing the new kernel have to go perfectly.

I currently use some VPSes for personal use and hosting some websites that I own. I use Ubuntu on all of my VPSes. I think Trisquel would be incredibly useful to use as a server. I have never seen a VPS hosting company that allows you to install Trisquel as the base, at least initially. Using Trisquel as a server, likely one wouldn't have to deal with most of the hassles of having to do workarounds for non-free video formats, or other non-free multimedia codecs. At the very least, one could feel good that he or she would be making the world a better place in a very small way.

According to Canonical and other sources, it is estimated that millions of people use Ubuntu. Below are some sources for that statement.

Since there are already millions of people using Ubuntu, I think it would be much easier for people to just convert from Ubuntu on their computers to Trisquel as opposed to having all of them have to install Trisquel on their computers. So, to conclude, please help with giving steps on how to convert an Ubuntu 14.04 32 bit edition install into a Trisquel 7.0 32 bit install. I would at the very least know how to install and use the Linux-libre kernel.

Any and all help is appreciated with this. Thanks.

Well, there is this but it's not perfect by any measure

Messing around with kernels isn't actually a big problem. Just install Linux-libre and boot into it. If you're afraid and even if you're not make backups before doing any of this. It's also a good idea to have a live media at hand. (Live CD/DVD/USB)

There's no reason you can't use Trisquel as a server. Many non-free media formats will work on Trisquel out of the box. I think installing Trisquel is much easier than trying to convert a ubuntu install.

I can confirm that it works, but depending on the type of virtualisation
that your provider is using, you might not be able to change the kernel
to a libre one (unless they are using a full hypervisor, if that's the
correct term).
