If you are going to install neomutt within GNU/Linux I suggest doing it
with the Guix package manager. I was getting this aweful error message
everytime neomutt was started after installing it using the APT package
manager concerning SMTP authenticators, yet when I would just continue
by pressing enter then my inbox would be displayed; and neomutt would
load up. But after installing it using Guix and removing the other
installation: I don't get the error message. It could be that other
pertinent software is installed through Guix; but that is all I have to
say.

Please remember that you can also open a ticket for such issues, and it could end helping fix the issue you see for those how don't use guix :)
