Java SE vs Java EE and free vs non-free.

I am wondering if the OpenJDK is considered completely free as in freedom software and (if it is) if you the reader thinks that it will remain that way in the future? Also, does the OpenJDK and Apache Tomcat make Java EE 6 free as in freedom too? I have been reading a lot into the recent (ish) news involving Oracle and feel insecure about continuing studies with Java and JSF if it is / is going to be a proprietary platform. Any feedback is appreciated, thank you.
I believe OpenJRE/JDK enters a state similar to that of Mono. It is Free (and will remain in Trisquel's repository) but should not be used to develop new softwares because of the high risk of seeing this work stopped by patent litigations. To avoid possible frustration of the user and to promote alternatives, Trisquel will not rely on Java softwares it in its default install... but it has always been so, hence no change.
