KDE Plasma 5 Installation
- Vous devez vous identifier ou créer un compte pour écrire des commentaires
Hello everyone, I am interested in trying KDE Plasma 5 and I tried installed the Desktop but I could not get it working. Does anyone have experience with setting this up? I'm wondering if there is something about Trisquel that would stop me from installing it. Yes, I am a GNU Plus Linux novice - about 5 months young now :)
Any help on installing this would be awesome. Many thanks.

Thanks Juergen, that was a great response and exactly what I was suspicious of too. Cheers!

There is this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/ubuntu/backports
It contains a package named "plasma-desktop". You must however trust the people who administrate it. In particular, they could include proprietary software (now or along a future update).
Some Ubuntu users reported that the PPA has stopped providing packages for Ubuntu 14.04 (hence for Trisquel 7) since last June: https://askubuntu.com/questions/668384/how-to-upgrade-to-kde-plasma-5-on-ubuntu-14-04-3
But those packages are listed. So, either I do not understand or the situation has changed. If you want to try the adventure (despite the probable problems), execute this command (do not forget the option "-a"!) in a terminal:
$ echo 'deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu trusty main' | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list
You can then open the "Synaptic package manager" (from the "System settings"), "reload", and install "plasma-desktop".
I tried this and it didn't work for me for installing KDE Plasma 5.

The PPA doesn't contain Plasma 5 for trusty, so you'll have to compile. Or just use Debian testing.
just add the PPA but instead of installing "plasma-desktp" install "kde-plasma-desktop". The difference is that kde-plasma-desktop includes a minimal set of apps necessary for KDE to work well (install kde-standard for all the apps for kde)
