So in the recent times I have been out and about with a replicant phone with a sim card with only internet access, no telephony, and a regular telephone on the side.

Last night I was out in the woods for an overnighter and I noticed the telephony connection was faaaar more stable than the internet connection.

I tried contacting people through wire, but no cigar.

sms was working like a charm.

But... satellite phones, right? They're supposed to be eeeven more stable than telephony.

Are there any free software oriented alternatives in that genre of equipment?

After a little thought-processing I might just go for a "mobile broadband"-subscription with a mobile router/modem that's marketed as giving you great "area-coverage" and use my PC that is as free as possible.

But if anyone have any knowledge about the software being used in the satphone industry/community, please share.
