Libre alternative to GoogleBeast Calendar That Works with Evolution (or IceDove/ Lightening)

Hi everyone, I have this calendar of tech activist events on my wiki:
http://www.coactivate.org/projects/disintermedia/disintermedia-calendar
But using a wikipage is a really ugly hack for listing events (worse than using a spreadsheet as a database ;) It's hard to keep it-to-date as events pass, and there's no way to sync events with a desktop calendar (like Evolution or IceDove). Ideally I'd like to replace that page with a service like Google Calendar, but obviously I'd like to use one that only uses free code software on the server side, as well as playing nicely with Trisquel using an open standard like iCal, CalDav or WebDav to synchronize events between the remove service and desktop clients. Does anyone know of such a service?
If not, what would be involved in setting up a service on the Trisquel servers for Trisquel users?
Have you looked into ownCloud? It includes a calendar that's very similar to Google calendar and syncs to devices via CalDAV. I'm running it on a Trisquel machine at home and syncing my calendar to my Android devices. It comes with a calendar[1], but there is a fork of it called "Calendar+" which includes more features[2]. I haven't tried it with Evolution or IceDove, though.

I have looked at ownCloud, but it seems to have been removed from the repos due to some serious security issue.
Nobody was maintaining the ownCloud packages in the universe repo, so the ownCloud team itself asked Ubuntu to remove them rather than letting people install packages with known security issues. The correct way to install ownCloud on Ubuntu or Trisquel is to use the official ownCloud ppa (which by the way was just moved from opensuse's build service to a new place): https://download.owncloud.org/download/repositories/stable/owncloud/.
