Which one do you use, and why? What's the difference between Canoeboot and GNU Boot except that GNU Boot is made by the FSF and Canoeboot is mostly made by Leah Rowe?

Also, that whole FSF drama is over now right?

Canoeboot has the latest changes in Libreboot, but without the proprietary software. GNU Boot is a bit behind.

My current laptop is an HP EliteBook 840 G2, which only supports Libreboot, as some proprietary firmware is required. It currently runs stock boot firmware, however.

Actually, gnuboot is quite behind...

all the ivy bridge devices that libreboot used to support can be used on canoeboot now without the "blobs" as far as the FSF is concerned. Aka, they are RYF with canoeboot.

Also two haswell devices also are supported by canoeboot due to lenovo screwing up (thankfully!)

Anywho, my point being, gnuboot needs to catch up very badly.

Although libreboot is still better than the stock bios.

Libreboot is probably 90% RYF

stock bios is close to 0%

I have a thinkpad x200. I use canoeboot on it. Seeing as the GNU foundation, or the FSF already approves of canoeboot there is not much reason to use GNUboot. GNUboot is based on a libreboot version 6 months older than the libreboot release. This is the basic difference.

It is also worth checking if your CPU still receives microcode updates because canoeboot will not load those.
