Hi, I just found an MMORPG called Meridian 59. The game is considered by many to be the first 3D MMORPG. It is free software but both the client and server only works on Windows:

Here is the latest release video, to see if it interests you:

I really want to play this game in full freedom. The retro feel and first person perspective really interests me. It reminds me of the graphics of Elder Scrolls: Arena. I am posting this in the hopes that someone with time and interest will attempt to port this to GNU+Linux systems. I would give it a shot if I had the summer, but I have classes now and do not have time to dedicate to something like this. I believe the developers chat on IRC on EsperNet at channel #Meridian59.

May you always game freely!

That (in the LICENSE file) looks bad:
As a special exception, the copyright holders of this program give you permission to link this program with the accompanying files wrap.dll and waveplay.dll.

Those files have been replaced, if I'm correct. The permission is just there so that if someone wanted to use the old libraries they could.

I tried in Wine and it gave me an error.

Also I believe it requires visual studio to compile.

install wine-dev and run winemaker *.sln on the directory. Then, make.
