According to this guide: https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/compiling-gnu-linux-libre-kernel , one can configure the kernel in four different "styles". Namely "make config", "make menuconfig", "make gconfig" and "make xconfig".

In my situation, the two latter ones are not installed by default and there is no guidance given as to how to install them.

After I run

make gconfig

I copied the whole output/error message and pasted it in the search bar at duckduckgo.com.
That lead me to two resalts of which one of them went to a website I don't remember the name of right know. I followed the guidance there and now it (GTK+) works.

But it seems very strange to me that I have to go through all this to get the package.

Or to rephrase/elaborate what I find strange:

I think it is strange that this - https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/compiling-gnu-linux-libre-kernel - guidance, which I take for granted are "Trisquel-official" since it is to be found here on Trisquel's own website, teach you commands for four different "styles" in which to configure the kernel, BUT, doesn't say anything about the fact that two of the "configuring-styles" depend on packages that are not installed by default, nor anything about how to install said packages.
