>This extension hides private and important metadata of your browser, usually obtainable using resource:// URIs, against the Web. You should have it installed if you use many extensions, because having many extensions means having many tracking and fingerprinting vectors. Also, Web sites can generally probe Firefox for installed extensions in many cases without this.
Not, if you disable javascript. Almost all tracking techniques and the vast majority of browser exploits do not work if you disable javascript.
If you really love privacy use the Tor Browser Bundle.
I agree to certain extent, yet we need JavaScript for some functionality of programs. Not defending, Java has been around for a long time. Yet we have to be careful with it. There is other methods to help modified the capture of Metadata depending on the browser we are using.
I did a test of the first addon:
it helped with
.01 of identifying information
Browser: IceCat
Addons: Https everywhere, NoScript, PrivacyBadger, SpyBlock, Self-Destructing Cookies, HTML5 Video Everywhere!.
Proxy: Privoxy
in NoScript, if something's temporarily allowed, then the bad stuff can get in, too, I assume. If I want to not trust something lurking, often I can't block it out unless I block the main site. So many sites use it, though it seems very vulnerable.
I don't understand exactly what javascript is, what it's for, though I have read it's not the same as java. All I know is, javascript seems to be a big bad opening for nasty stuff.
> I don't understand exactly what javascript is, what it's for
It's a programming language. JavaScript programs are sent to your browser by Web pages and then automatically executed, usually to add interactivity to the page. The problem with JavaScript on the Web isn't the language, it's that the installation and execution of the programs is automatic.
jsless internet is a beautiful experience, trust me, I got so used to functionality, speed and content over bloat.
how do you use a site like diaspora that has js and won't function without it?
interactivity- is that its main function? Before js, was there another way to have interactivity?
> Before js, was there another way to have interactivity?
It depends on what you mean. Some things that people do with JS can be done with CSS and standard elements. Some things by definition cannot be done without programming.
thanks for explaining. I remember trying CSS and not getting it. :(
Thank you for mentioning Privacy Badger! Added it to my web browsers.
May I also suggest Disconnect?

Released under GNU GPL 3.0 even though it's listed as "open source".
I can't get Privacy Badger to load in IceCat.
