What is happening? when is it going to be available again?

sorry, the message is

Openmailbox is currently performing a maintenance operation in order to prepare our next version availability. We should be back soon !

No clue, but obviously it's just down for maintenance. This is normal.

Though It looks working fine but actually not!

If I send mail, it shows successfully sent but it is never going to be received to whom we've sent mail.

I've tried many times and confirmed that unable to send mails. :(

I think I've seen something like this happen before, but that it was resolved after a while. I'd say contact the people behind OMB and wait for a resolution.

Yes, now working fine!

I do use it with K9 Mail app (Free software) on my Android.

People are receiving mails fine sent through openmailbox. Issue solved.

Although XMPP doesn't appear

Their forums seem to have an expired certificate that is causing problems as well. I noticed the error I was getting when trying to use their XMPP had something to do with a certificate but the client I used didn't give enough data to really go off of. Perhaps they have an IRC channel? If they do maybe more information can be gained there.

I hear OpenMailBox keeps one year logs of meta-data. Hmm, interesting. If I were a user (which I'm not) I'd want to investigate more on it. Doesn't seem to fit the best practices.

Hmmmm. Openmailbox just went down.

Yes, expired certificate, non functional XMPP and forum, and no way to contact the developers (it returns an error)

They run campaigns for funding every year, but it gets hard to justify funding them if they aren't responsive to problems like this for such extended periods of time.

From what I’ve read OMB won’t be free indefinitly. So maybe’s the time when they have to switch.

At this rate, I don't see how they'll convince anyone to pay if they can't fix services that don't work. Hopefully they'll rectify that.

I'll keep using OMP while email works, but I hope the Jabber issue will be resolved

Hi all...

I have experienced problems for several days with Openmailbox.org server. I waited patiently for several days to get and send my emails. Today i did one personal test. Still has 3 hours i am waiting to receive to my email the answer. Still the same hours to my sender to wait for my answer. It is not working. It is a s*it* I GAVE UP ON OPENMAILBOX.oRG. I gave on past years some donations to Openmailbox but now I GAVE UP.
I am not paying for a service that dont work at all.
In this link:

https://trisquel.info/en/forum/what-kind-email-services-are-you-using-and-recommend-and-why

They recommend several email services. But this is from Wed, 07/08/2015 - 22:35. So that is very outdated. We are in 2017 rigth now.
I have searched for Kolab:

https://kolabnow.com/ The pricing for individual account is USD estimate: $ 4.56
GBP estimate: £ 3.65 EUR estimate: € 4.28
And that is per month. Every month is billed with 4,28€.

There is any other alternative to use a good email that is fast to receive and sending?

K9 Mail --> i dont use Android so i dont want this.

What about https://vfemail.net/ ? VFEMAIL?

What about SAFEMAIL? https://orange.safe-mail.net/cgi-bin/Safe-mail.net/gate/N1O-589b11e9-348fa290

There is another options that are better? If yes which one?

Thanks very much in advance looking forwared for the answers. Thnaks!

All I can suggest is the FSF's list:

https://www.fsf.org/resources/webmail-systems

I currently have a Riseup.net account, but their canary died a few months ago, so I would recommend that people do not create new accounts there, and anyone who does have an account there should take steps to prepare to leave it for another service if necessary (e.g. if the service shuts down because of whatever caused the canary to die, or if it turns out to be something really bad). The ones I'm looking at are Safe-mail.net and VFEmail since they work without JavaScript.

Of course, though, the best option is always to host your own email, if you can.

Yeah, I use riseup too :(

>The ones I'm looking at are Safe-mail.net and VFEmail since they work without JavaScript.

Well, I just tried creating an account with VFE without allowing the javasmith. No game.
The problematic part is indeed creating the account. Once the account has been created, any mail provider will work just great with free software (any mail client of your choice).

Some time back I did make one (I also purged it afterwards for their "privacy" policy) without allowing js with safe-mail. They will ask you for your phone number. You can make up one, I provided a fake one and it worked.

This one works beautifully, you can register for an account without allowing any script at all -> https://cock.li/

It's mail with cocks, you know, but it's free and can be used in freedom.. :D

The phone number field was optional for me.

As for the privacy policy, this is all I see:

> Safe-mail.net is not using cookies and not collecting any data about users. Safe-mail.net does not transfer, sell, trade or oterwise exchange any data it might have about its users with any other company.

That's about as good as it can be.

Well, this is what I read. I'm no lawyer, but the terming seems vague. I might be wrong. Hopefully a lawyer among us (I know there is one) will clear it out.

PRIVACY: SAFe-mail Ltd. will not disclose information about you or your use of the SAFe-mail system, unless SAFe-mail believes that such action is necessary to comply with its legal requirements or process; enforce these terms; or protect the interests of SAFe-mail Ltd., its members or others. You agree that SAFe-mail may access your account, including its contents, for these reasons or for service or technical reasons. Please note that your Internet Protocol address is transmitted with each message sent from your account.

https://www.safe-mail.net/agreement.html

The bold is mine..Only I don't know how to make a double bold on "or for service or technical reasons" :P

And, yeah, I could swear when I asked for an account it did not work until I filled the phone number field with an obviously fake number.

I very much prefer this (again the mail with cocks, meh):

How can I trust you?

You can't. Cock.li doesn't parse your E-mail to provide you with targeted ads, nor do I read E-mail contents unless it's for a legal court order. However, it is 100% possible for me to read E-mail, and IMAP/SMTP doesn't provide user-side/client-side encryption, so you're just going to have to take my word for it. Any encryption implementation would still technically allow me to read E-mail, too. This was true for Lavabit as well -- while your E-mail was stored encrypted (only if you were a paid member, which most people forget), E-mail could still technically be intercepted while being received / sent (SMTP), or while being read by your mail client (IMAP). For privacy, I would recommend encrypting your E-mails using PGP using a mail client add-on like Enigmail.

As you pointed out, the only real option is hosting your own mail.

Looks like a great e-mail provider, thanks for sharing!

I haven't personally tried it but I know few folks are very happy with mailinabox, and it seems also a relatively easy tool to use, so go for it.
