This seems like something worth signing, to support the release of source code (and maybe art assets) of this unfinished game under free license(s):

I just signed the petition. It appears it's almost there.

Petition is useless. If there's no patent restrictions, just start a similar free/libre project from the scratch.

(31 years ago, we Chinese made a petition demanding that the Communist Party of China not to be so corrupted, and the protesters were crushed by tanks.)

>Petition is useless.

The project was scrapped anyway, the company loses nothing if they release it. The president of the company promised if it got 100,000 he would release it.. If they do not, then they lose face to 100,000 people (fans).

This matter is inconsequential to them... unlike what you refer to which would matter greatly to the political elite whom desired to keep their positions.

Nonetheless, I signed, with the hope it gets released GPL3 and the artworks + software contribute towards a community finished game or used otherwise meaningfully.

I signed because why not ? Worst case it does nothing and I wasted 2 minutes of my time, best case the company does what they said they would and another game gets open sourced.
