Pls Remove Chinese Search Engines in Abrowser

Hi,
Finally I was able to register to this forum! (think you guys blocked those proprietary email providers, eg. outlook :)
I am advocating free software awareness in China. I used GNU/Linux for some time and I found Trisquel very cool with a strong commitment of freedom and privacy.
Could I suggest that, when I install and use Trisquel in Chinese (Simplified) language, I found the search engines of Abrowser are bad. Almost all of them listed are involved in surveillance. Baidu is the notorious one which has huge and hidden relationship with the government of China.
I just think those who loved to use Trisquel are who emphasis much on this issue and therefore would never use these search engines any more.
Could the developers / maintainers remove such options for searching?
Thanks, and Warmly
GNUserCN
I created a bug report for it: https://trisquel.info/en/issues/15779
Thankyou! Gracias!pizzaiolo
This is an issue with the English version of Abrowser as well- it has the
default Iceweasel/Firefox selection of search engines available. These include
options such as Bing and Google (and though certainly better than Baidu, they
are hardly recommendable as default selections). They should remove these and
replace them with just DuckDuckGo, Startpage, and perhaps Searx. Another nice
option I'd like to see is one for Trisquel package searches (like in Iceweasel).
I would just stay with a server of Searx. For example, I'm used to use
Searx.me's service[1]. Besides, Searx is free software[2].
If you don't want to use Searx.me's copy of Searx, no problem! There is
a list of running instances of Searx[3][4]!

how hard would it be to abrowser/icecat use tor by default?
I don't know about it being hard, but it wouldn't necessarily be useful. If your identity is revealed by other means, like fingerprinting or tracking cookies, it's not helping anyone. Better to use the Tor Browser Bundle than to badly rig up a browser with normal settings to use Tor.
should the tor browser bundle be included by default in trisquel then?
It has its own updating mechanism built-in, so that probably isn't necessary. But I don't know.
I am really amazed how many people ignore this and yet it is the first point you should read when you go to download TBB..
Want Tor to really work?
You need to change some of your habits, as some things won't work exactly as you are used to.
Use the Tor Browser
a) Tor does not protect all of your computer's Internet traffic when you run it. Tor only protects your applications that are properly configured to send their Internet traffic through Tor. To avoid problems with Tor configuration, we strongly recommend you use the Tor Browser. It is pre-configured to protect your privacy and anonymity on the web as long as you're browsing with the Tor Browser itself. Almost any other web browser configuration is likely to be unsafe to use with Tor.
Gracias, guys!
Lovely to have a talk on Tor ! I happen to be a Tails / Tor user as well .
As I see it, using Tor would be too strict for a normal user (not those human rights workers or key persons) to make it a daily use.
However my post here might just be a complaint that I really hate to see the "bad" search engine (and there logos ) on my GNU system :) -- am really hate Baidu.com :P
Cheers
Your totally justified in hating it. There are a lot of issues and not enough time to fix all of them.
:(
I am sorry, Chris, apologies.
I don't mean to blame you (and other developers). When I complain here I actually love this distro very much and therefore like to promote it.
I manually removed those search engines from my desktop, but hence I would like to contribute to improve the Trisquel in a way that I am able to.
For instance I may help with translation stuff.
Cheers mate!
BTW, where did the language packages installed from exactly? I just didn't know. I guess the language packages on every corner of the distro may not be developed or maintained by Trisquel (then by Ubuntu?)(including the searching options which forked from Firefox not Abrowser)
Am I right! So sorry.
