About a year ago I got a Samsung Nexus (i9250). Yesterday I finally try to install Replicant on it(reluctantly). Followed this guide:

https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/GalaxyNexusI9250Installation

At the end of the installation I did a full factory reset and rebooted. The word "Google" appeared on the screen and then the Replicant logo and text filled the screen. I was excited that the installation was successful, but nothing happens on the screen. No matter what buttons I press, it doesn't respond. I have tried reinstalling several times, but the result is the same. I didn't buy this phone and install Replicant on it to see this screen. I did it to use it as a mobile phone, so this is not useful.
By the way, I didn't know why I had to do a factory reset at the end of install, so I tried to reboot without doing a factory reset, but the result was the same.

I searched the Replicant forum and found a similar report.

I don't know what's going on, it is frustratingly vague as usual, but it can seem to work if I install Replicant after installing LineageOS. But I'm not entirely convinced why, and it's a pain/ridiculous to install LineageOS just to install Replicant.

I'm going to contact the Replicant team, but I thought I'd ask here first.
Can anyone think of anything that might help?

I bent my principle and started to compile LineageOS (note: I had already experienced compiling a few times, unintentionally), but gave up when I couldn't solve the unintelligible errors.
But then I found out that my phone model was a derivative of the i9250 (i9250T). So it seems that Replicant cannot be installed in the first place.
The thought of having to deal with the non-free software I was forced to install while trying to install LineageOS, the large number of programs required to compile it, and the footprint I left on Googleapi and elsewhere is daunting ('з').

I believe it is because the bootloader is still google's and you can't remove that.
It is so painful, but it may comfort you to think of it as a reminder that you have (nearly) freed a device from google...

I don't think so. I'm starting to think all computer geeks are genuine masochists.

I was able to successfully install an operating system something called AOSP.
After installing it, I calculated the md5sum and it didn't match.
But I got tired of it, so I think it's okay.

What do you think of AOSP? I've heard of it but never seen it. Is it much different than android?

I don't know... There's not much difference in color or touch, though.
