Here's a couple new ones I've been collecting.
Kittypaw is original photo from linuxdaddy on the antiX Linux forum.
I think I got dark cold night from someone on the MX Linux forum. Or it might have been from lutes on this forum. I can't remember.

No, it is somewhat too smoky for my liking, although it surely has an interesting bluish-grey vs rust background.

And now to something completely different: was there not a saying that "when the cactus points to the sky, the idiot looks at the cactus"?

I like a lot of those pics from your kaspian site. Especially that one on your t9 desktop and the one with the sun setting on the mountains.

That's really nice, going to take me awhile to go through them all.

You're welcome. I think the photo was produced by the Hubble Heritage Project team.

A space nebula wallpaper again: VY Canis Majoris.

Looks like the eye of Sauron, or like the Balrog falling into the pits of Moria.

"This artist's impression of hypergiant star VY Canis Majoris shows the star's vast convection cells and violent ejections. VY Canis Majoris is so large that if it replaced the Sun, the star would extend for hundreds of millions of miles, between the orbits of Jupiter and Saturn."

It would be nice to have some Chesley Bonestell renditions available as wallpaper art. Sadly, his paintings are copyrighted and cannot be shared.

Miss them phone boxes. Made mass surveillance somewhat trickier.

I thought this starry night sky was a legacy wallpaper from Trisquel 6 or 7, but in fact it is not. It appears to be another CC0 picture.

Also, another one completely different.

This is the Trisquel 6 Toutatis desktop, with what I think was its default background. Could not find the original pic, although it must be archived somewhere.

Next, a somewhat surprising background given the filename it has been associated with.

RMS as Che Guevera on a Matrix background is not a beautiful wallpaper. But naming it "Windows 7" does increase its appeal. Maybe we could talk Microsoft into including it in their next Windows 10 major update.

Nice, thank you for the link!

I must have taken a wrong turn in the pool.

EDIT: it is even worse than that, in fact it was always there among the default backgrounds and stored in /usr/share/backgrounds. I am not getting better.

Here is one of my current favorites, I picked it up recently from the freely licensed picture and wallpaper site unsplash.com.

Indeed. A rare combination of the Milky Way reflected on the sea, a lonely sailboat, a starry night and sunset clouds.

I thought we could somehow still improve it, and after several disappointing attempts I settled for the "oil paint" effect version.

I think that if the sail could be chopped off in your oil paint version, it could be old Santiago's boat in Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea, as he gets pulled ever deeper out into the ocean by the giant fish at night.

Too late for me, alas - I forgot about the reflection and suddenly saw some intergalactic vessel coming out of a time warp. Rotating the original 90° counterclockwise only reinforced that impression.

I'm afraid I won't be able to reconnect with old Santiago on that one.

"We often hold a grudge, because we don't want to let the other person off the hook. But who's really hooked: the one who's moved on or the one who's holding on?" Thought Santiago as he let go the line, so the sharks could never destroy his dreams.

He's in his boat, being pulled ever deeper into the ocean, the fishing line cutting into his hands. Dreaming of the time when he was younger working on the ship that sailed along the African coast, where he saw the lions. Where he won the all night arm wrestling contest against a giant of a man.

I'm really liking this icon set - "Numix Circle Light". Looks like I got it from the package "numix-icon-theme-circle". I just found it yesterday, love the color it's bringing to the desktop.

They indeed make for quite clean artwork, although I might find them a wee bit too generic (I mean, even for setting apps). I might also just be too used to the ubiquitous square form factor that I adopted at some point last summer, so anything round feels somehow disturbing. I must have grown squared eyes by now.

By the way, thank you for the unsplash.com reference. Their "nature" category especially has breathtaking works.

Yeah, that photo of people using a fruity laptop has a lot of nature in it, since fruit is from nature.

Indeed. They appear to be tasting that new pear-to-pear messenger.

For some reasons you need to be standing and holding your laptop high for that. Line of sight must be crucial for pear authentication.

The photo is inherently racist. It shows that only asians are nerdy enough to be bothering with computers. Everyone else is happy in the picture except the asians.

You should call them Asian people, not Asians.
And don't make fun of these women. To you Westerners, it may look like Phip looks the same as Jap looks, but we Asian people are capable of distinguishing each other. They are probably Cambodian and probably have serious conversations with their families back home. For example, should they also leave the country and live in their small apartments in the U.S., or is Cambodia better off with the overheated hate crimes in the U.S.? etc. It probably is no laughing matter.

Cambodian? I don't think so. Look like southern han Chinese to me.

I wish Masaru had not died - he could tell which country they were from for sure. He would probably be able to tell you both their parents names, and which city they were born in.

That guy in the picture is laughing because he is a white supremacist. You can see it clearly. He's staring at his screen and laughing at pepe the frog memes.

What agents are you talking about?

I would have thought some might see it as a somewhat sexist picture, because there seems to be only one apparent male in it. But surely we know better than judging on physical appearance. Some consider there is nothing in a picture, except what our hallucinating brains project into it. I see myself in this picture. I see my coat, hanging on that remote chair, near the windows. The coffee machine is nearby, but out of frame. I must have gone to the toilets for private business. I might never return.

Also, could you speak a tad louder please? My ear trumpet has been malfunctioning of late.

Also, my blue parrot after we moved to the mountain.

He had been unresponsive for so long I thought it might in fact be a stuffed parrot.

Still, I kept feeding it, in case he was in fact hibernating, or stunned, or pretending to be dead so someone would free him. Fresh air from the mountain seems to have brought some life back into it: he can now stand up on this branch and quite credibly pretend to be alive. Or at least only half-dead.

This CC0 version is heavily indebted to the slapstick version of Jason Self's Happy GNU year (2019): https://www.gnu.org/graphics/happy_gnu_year_2019.html

We have not been granted authorization to update the year, so 2019 will do forever, until further notice.

Saint Ignutius sent me a vision in a dream. And in the vision, Saint Ignutius said: "Fear not, for September will soon be upon us, and the gnu will take care of everything. So please, update the wallpaper accordingly." And so I did.
