Are there any alternatives to Synapse on Trisquel Mini?
Call me nitpicky, but I dislike that Synapses' default internet search-engine is Google.

For me Synapse uses DuckDuckGo as its search engine, and I don't see a place to change it. Perhaps it uses the search engine of your default browser. What is your default browser?

If you have JavaScript disabled (which I advise) you won't be able to filter by license from within the page. Instead just append '?license=opensource' to the URL.

I can't remember changing the default browser, but I have indeed installed all of the available browser and tried them out because of various reasons. But I wiped my hard disk once again and freshly installed Trisquel Mini once again because strange things started to happen. So now I am back to basics anyway. And I guess Midori is set at default, which uses duckduckgo.com.
So I think I'll try to istall it once again.
When I enter package manager and search for Synapse, I get both "synapse" and "synapse-dbg". Do I need to install both of them and what do they represent?
I see this phenomena often when I search for applications using the package manager.
The description of "synapse-dbg" is "semantic file launcher - debug package". You are not debugging "synapse", therefore you do not need "synapse-dbg".
Why have you installed Trisquel Mini and not Trisquel? 1GB of RAM (2GB for comfort) are enough to run the edition most of us know (i.e., more people here can help you) and that includes more utilities by default (there is basically no need to ever use the terminal... although people will usually give command-line instructions because it is easier, as I explained you in th other thread).

It's actually because I first tried to install regular Trisquel, but for some reason it didn't work :/ I have no clue why, and checksummed .iso file also.
Trisquel Mini worked though. I should get some rewriteable DVDs though, for trial and error purposes.
When I used Trisquel 7 I found that the text installer worked better than the graphical installer. It may look intimidating, but if you accept the defaults and select the 'Trisquel' desktop environment (not 'Triskel' as I accidentally did my first time and ended up with a very ugly configuration of KDE) you should be able to install Trisquel more easily than with the graphical installer.

I do not remember if the NetInstall lists you sets of programs to choose from. If so, select "Trisquel desktop environment" (probably the only thing you want in the list) and, once the installation over, you have Trisquel's default desktop environment.
If not, the installation will be fast and the reboot will present you a text session... where you can execute this command (for instance: there are other ways) to install Trisquel's default desktop environment:
$ sudo apt install trisquel trisquel-recommended
To start the graphical session (the next reboots will automatically start it):
$ sudo start lightdm
But the live system with the graphical installer should work...

I'm not asking users to do this, but wouldn't it be trivial to change
the search engine in the program?
