Hello everyone :D
I've installed packages using the command line, however i've tryed to open the Synaptic Package Manager and i've noticed that it does not start up completely, do you know the motive?

With sudo or gksudo the synaptic starts, thank you for your help, however, could you tell me the differences between the two?

gksudo sets proper environment to avoid issues. Some graphical programs will work with regular sudo but it's a bit of a russian roulette. Once things go south you cannot login anymore for example, more than one such case on this very forum.

Been using sudo for all the graphical applications for 2 years now. Never had any issue at all.

Thank you lembas, may I ask if that command works only with graphical applications that use the gtk?

It works with any application. You can execute Synaptic with 'pkexec' too. There even is a script just for that:
$ synaptic-pkexec

synaptic-pkexec@magicbanana That's got to exactly be the thing that's not working for Davide. MAybe try that in the terminal and post the resulting result and error(s, if any)?

The software works with sudo, gksudo and synaptic-pkexec, thanks to miguelmenendez, lembas and Magic Banana, however I've installed the package suggested by root_vegetable, the so called "policykit-1-gnome" and rebooted the system and now the software starts asking me the authentication in a dialog box :) so I can say that the problem has been solved :D

Were you using Trisquel Mini? `policykit-1-gnome' isn't installed by default
(for some odd reason) on Trisquel Mini edition.

Are you using Trisquel Mini? If you aren't getting the password prompt
graphically (but you clearly can authenticate based on your use of the
command line) install a package called policykit-1-gnome. For some odd reason
it is not installed by default on Trisquel mini. If you are not using
Trisquel mini, check if it is installed anyway. Installing it solved a
similar problem for me, so I hope this helps.
