This option is meant to be available in Ubuntu, but I can't see it in Trisquel 5.5.

How do I get to it/set it up?

Thank you!

Start>System Settings>System Info>Default Applications

Feel free to explore your GNU/Linux

Thanks, baptistredbloom!

I went into default applications. (I had been there before.) I couldn't see Network Proxy there. Only default applications for web, mail, calendar, music, video and photos.

There was no sign of Network proxy anywhere. I couldn't see a way of adding Network Proxy there, either.

By the way, I tried to select gmail as default mail application but the setting would not budge from evolution...

The "default applications" are executables to be called in some circumstances (say "clicking on a "mailto" link in your case). GMail is not an executable. It is a Web site and I doubt you can set the default mailer to "abrowser http://gmail.com" either. If it works, a new message will not be opened and the recipient address not be automatically set.

Just found a great solution for 5.5 users.

Open the default web browser.
Go to the multi-menu button in upper left.
Select Preferences in pop out menu to the right, Preferences.
Go to the Advanced tab.
Select the Network sub tab
Click Settings button next to Connection

Vola, Set up your proxy settings, go to any webpage.
Use your browser to get online. Do your updates and downloading of permanent solutions mentioned above..
