Hey guys! I am a new member to discuss for the first time in this thread.

So anyways, is it possible to work the processor, graphics and drivers before testing and installing Trisquel via live boot on any laptops without operating system as the FreeDOS shipped from manufacturer?

"is it possible to work the processor, graphics and drivers before testing and installing Trisquel"
sorry what do you mean by that?

do you mean will everything work with trisquel?
if so we can tell you if you tell us what kind of hardware you have
e.g laptop name/model

and you can test if trisquel works with your computer by booting to a live usb/cd

I didn't have to buy my laptop from the computer store while saving my money since yesterday. But I thought I was looking for Asus, Dell, HP and other laptop manufactures comes to ship FreeDOS, within part of Intel Celeron, Pentium Dual-Core, Core i3 to i7 and any other kinds of processors.

Grandchaos9000 has a point ...

It seems as though [all ?] the USB installers are *indows programs so it may be universally assumed, even here, that someone new to gnu/linux/trisquel is starting with an ancillary *indows computer that wasn't free.

If I'm sitting here with an OS-less computer, and no other computer in sight, what do I do ?

1. Find your way into the BIOS; that usually involves carefully watching the monitor during startup to determine what combination of keystrokes it takes.
2. Set the BIOS to boot from a CDROM ... or from a USBstick; power down.
3. Acquire a CDROM or USBstick with gnu/linux/trisquel on it that includes all the sufficient nonproprietary sourcecode.
4. Place the media of choice in the computer, and restart the computer.
5. After the media installs the gnu/linux/trisquel OS, run "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get upgrade" to bring the trisquel OS up to the present.

This isn't an academic exercise ... If I'm starting with a pile of computer parts gathered together from disparate sources, can I bootstrap gnu/linux/trisquel ?

So the key question is: Where can I get a CDROM or USDBstick with [only] gnu/linux/trisquel on it that will bootstrap this mongrel computer ?

The LiveUSBs have an "install.exe" to make the transition from Windows to Trisquel easy, but that is a secondary function. The primary function of the LiveUSBs is to install Trisquel by booting off of the USB directly from BIOS.

Sorry for a late reply of them while busy working, and I have my Lexar 16GB USB after I burned a Trisquel ISO image with Rufus on *indows since several days ago.

@amenex: I know you're right about your skills easily, but not even the Secure Boot is impossible to circumvent.

This is a totally disastrous after I've had to read an article about the Secure Boot! But what do will they want to abolish?

Try a Google search on "disabling UEFI secure boot."

google are a very bad company who make all there
money by collecting all the data they possibly can about you
if you are going to use a search engine try these:
www.duckduckgo.com/html
www.startpage.com
www.ixquick.com

I personally would rank them in the following order:

(1) www.ixquick.com - dutch based servers (so cannot be compelled to hand over data by a US court, fetches results from several search engines except google)
(2) www.startpage.com (same philosophy as ixquick (as they are same company), except US based servers (and so could be compelled to hand over data by a US court order) and fetches results from google
(3) www.duckduckgo.com/html - similar philosphy to Ixquick but as with startpage has US based servers and so too could be compelled to hand over data.

Note that ixquick has servers both in Europe and the US@ - if you're in Europe it'll automatically use european ones. Anyway you can set what servers it'll grab from within the settings on the search engine page.
Also I am not saying that ixquick is better than duckduckgo privacy wise. Just that I don't want to use a service that makes any kind of business with mierdamazon..But it is also true, as nbd pointed out, that if a server is located outside the "States of corporate Union" it can NOT be compelled by a court to surrender your data..
cheers

@amenex: So I tried to disable Secure Boot, Fast Boot, and then switch to Legacy Mode while booting with my Live USB of Trisquel GNU/Linux to work before installing.

Is any possible to replace *indows 8/8.1 with Trisquel GNU/Linux permanently in single boot, or alongside in dual boot?

It certainly at least used to be possible to do both. Probably still is.

Also, welcome!

Dual booting with UEFI might be a bit tricky, but single booting is very easy.

Finally, I've brought my new Dell Inspiron 15 (3521) laptop without an operating system to test some working drivers of graphics, audio and camera, but not a wireless card, so I decide to use my phone while tethering. Then, what will I do optionally to install normal, mini or netinstall?

Hello GrandChaos9000,

If you mean what edition of Trisquel you should install, I believe you should go with the GNOME edition. It has almost everything you need to get started.

But if you are searching for something lightweight then choose the Mini edition. I don't know if it's allowed to post links to personal works here but here are some links to an installation guide and a tutorial I've made. It will help you with the installation.

Again, if posting those links is not allowed, let me know, accept my apologies and a forum admin can edit the post.

Thanks,

Hi SuperTramp83,

Thanks for letting me know. I'm working on translating the website (the entire project not just http://doc.gnuvideo.ro) in English as well but things goes a litle bit slow because of my daily job.

Glad you like it.

I know right at the same words, and I'd had to stick in normal after installing since last night.

Hold on. Is this RealTek RTL-8169 Gigabit Ethernet Driver (r8169) wireless card free or not?

But, I tried to command "dmesg" with an output log file for investigating free firmware was still missing, and "modinfo r8169" shows the license of GPL.

The driver can be under the GNU GPL but useless without a proprietary firmware.

I don't think that's wireless.
