I like the new way... The one in the RC for the background and for the start up.
Hi everyone,
Here is my first contribution.

I really like the color combination. In my opinion the white levels are too
intense. I did a logo trace and some work on the background in the GIMP. I
hope this will be useful.

Thank you, Øyvind. Your version is beautiful.
Here is a screenshot of my desktop with this background. I think it looks good enough: http://i50.tinypic.com/2z889r8.jpg

The probelm is simply the brightness, that version is much improved
though.
I myself, and I know many others do too, prefer dark backgrounds like
this beautiful wallpaper from NASA (so it's public domain)

Many prefer very cool, dark backgrounds, and others prefer the opposite, and many (like myself) don't lean strongly toward one or the other. I don't think there's a good reason to reject either one out of hand for a distro. Ubuntu's current background is glossy bright orange.
Hello and thank you for your (art)work!
I agree with you for the bootsplash (perfect), the usplash is a very good one but I don't like the background for some reasons:
1. There is no unity with the different splashes
2. The colours combination is too aggressive
3. To be honest, the background seems to be very *old*
I prefere the 3.0.1 version of the background...
Why don't use a more 'simple' one ? Maybe a more 'militant' one ??
Congratulations for the good work !
