It looks nice!

Is the desktop environment still based on GNOME Flashback or was something else chosen now?

Edit: I replied before you added the link, it's MATE.

It's mate... I would prefer GNOME.. you could with less effort provide
a gnome flashback and gnome shell experience.
But Mate is good also. I personally use a simple openbox + tint one
one netbook and xfce on other :-)

MATE was the best choice at this point. With Trisquel 9, the team should also take a look at Budgie as the Budgie version will be official with 17.04 onwards.

Yeah, it's good to remember that you can install any desktop in the ubuntu repositories. The mate desktop is just the showroom version.

I don't think using GNOME Flashback is less effort than MATE. If anything, it just makes things more confusing to the user since all of GNOME's documentation assumes you're using GNOME Shell. GNOME Flashback is pretty much an afterthought.

It is MATE 1.12.1 but beware that currently there is no installer for this alpha release.

Will we be able to use this alpha ISO to upgrade from Trisquel 7? Will it automatically update to the latest version of Trisquel 8 once installed?

Hello,

This is fantastic news!!

I booted up this bad boy and I like it so far. I just played around with the live session.

There is no Gui Application for to install Trisquel 8 yet is there? I saw no sign of one in the live session anyway...

Keep up the great work!

Steve
