Hi all.
Is it hard to do a Trisquel GNU/Linux-Libre version based on Linux Deepin?
Linux Deepin 12.12 is based on Ubuntu 13.04 in this moment.

The Trisquel developers basically copy from Ubuntu's repositories the free packages, modify some of them to make them not recommend proprietary software, and from this reservoir of software, build and customize the default system. In this process, Ubuntu's default system doest not intervene at all.

Many (most?) *buntu's derivatives do not even have their own repositories. They simply use that of Ubuntu. If Deepin is one of them (I cannot easily know: most of the information on their website is in Chinese) and if the default system does not crucially depend on proprietary software, then one could:

  1. identify the proprietary software in Deepin's default install (by checking whether the related package is in Trisquel's repository);
  2. replace the proprietary software that can be replaced (for instance, Linux by Linux-libre);
  3. remove what cannot be replaced;
  4. in /etc/apt/sources.list, change Ubuntu's repositories in favor of Trisquel's

If Deepin has its own repository, one could additionally identify the new packages in it, whether they are free and, if so, propose them for inclusion in Trisquel's repository.

it has a lots of mirrors from what I know:

Maybe the next version of Trisquel will be based on Deepin.
