Trisquel installation program hanging while removing files

On several Dell computers, different types, I try to install Trisquel 7.0.
During installation, almost at the end, installation program get stuck.
After hitting the enter key, it then stated errors about diskspace, being less than 50MB free space.
On a 80GB disk with no dual boot installation that is.
In the black screen I find errors stating "no free firmware, failed to request firmware".
This now is the second Dell computer that gave me those exact same errors during Trisquel 7.0 installation.
Suppose it is all about Dell alternative drivers, not available or not for free?
Do I need another Linux brand here instead?
How to circumvent these problems?
These are all P4 2.8Ghz CPU and 2GB of memory.
Has anyone encounter same kind of trouble with Trisquel installation on Dell systems?
Earlier, installing Trisquel 7.0 on a Asus system went well with a Celeron 1Ghz CPU and 1GB of memory.

Corrected: Do I need another GNU/Linux distribution?

And, unfortunately, this may well be the case. Either buy components that are
compatible with free software and replace those that don't with them, or switch
to a PDF (pretty damn free) distro like Debian.

Thanks for your reply.
And yes, you're right indeed it´s "a different distribution".
Installation of version 6 goes flawlessly, though.
On the same Dell systems.
Kind a strange anyway.
I´ll keep Debian in mind, just in case.
Question though,
How come that both distro´s differ that much, like version 6 can be installed and the newer version 7, cannot?

I really have no idea why this should be the case. The only main differences I
can think of between Trisquel 6 and 7 are (I believe) GNOME 2 vs 3 and some
minor application choices. Other than that, minor version changes. If anything,
7 should support your computer better than 6, not the other way round- firmware
doesn't get worse between releases- there's just more of it, and newer
versions. Try a clean burn? Also, have you tried the netinst CD? (not that this
should really help anything, but I am a firm believer in the superiority of
that installer above all else, and I do love to proselytise)

What exact hardware do these Dell systems of which you speak have? What are
they? Would be useful.

Please do. Ideally, we'd all have 100% free distros like Trisquel, BLAG, and so
forth, but Debian really is in a class of its own as the second best thing.
Just avoid distros which have really lost all pretense of caring about free
software like Ubuntu, Mint, and don't even differentiate between it and
proprietary software.

If Trisquel 6 works, then use that. For freedom's sake.

Trisquel 6 uses GNOME 3 as well.

Also, what exact installation options did you select? What's your setup?

I had that happen too on a sony vaois. I didn't get a message about no free disk space though?

But I did get the messages about no free firmware, when loading terminal. and the installation did hang, I found it smoother installing from the live sesion. but if I waited it eventually went through. The messages were about the wireless card which is not supported.

you could try the net-install cd if the normal installer isn’t working for you:
https://trisquel.info/en/download

also just to check that trisquel will work with your system you could run trisquel live from the dvd

Installation of Trisquel 7.0 stuck at almost the end of installation proces, stating someting about diskspace shortage.
As stated earlier, before the actual installation start, an requirement list shows up with diskspace of at least 8.5GB.
If a computer system does not comply with actual installation requirements, installation will be aborted.
With disks of 40 and 80GB of space without dual boot, that should really not be the problem.
During installation process there is also not much of a program installation choice possible, that is only after login.
But it does not come that far all the way up to first logon.

Therefor only Trisquel 6 here is suitable for both computers, no errors during installation occur.
This applies to Dell Optiplex GX280 and Latitude D620 systems, both with 2GB of RAM and 2.8Ghz Intel CPU onboard.

trisquelusernl, I had the same problem on one of my laptops, you have some incompatible hardware. If you won't remove it, OS won't boot.

I removed wifi ralink card, and fixed my problem. So, after using my laptop with wired connection, later I purchased Atheros card.

So, you have something incompatible with free software, and your OS won't boot.

If you use something like Nvidia 6100m, nothing to do here.

What gpu do you use?

That is strange though, due to the fact that Trisquel 6 will install and boot flawlessly.
It uses the Intel GPU.
Only thing that doesn´t work right out of the box, is the wireless adapter.
Using a Realtec driver does the job there.
So I have to stick with Trisquel 6 then as Trisquel 7 has issues while installing on Dell systems that Trisquel 6 has not.

It may happened that your gpu was blacklisted between 6 and 7? Why don't u try installing 6 and then updating to 7?
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

If you'r installing realtec drivers 4 your wireless adapter ur probably loosing your libre system...,.,-----.-
