Hello all, I have an old Surface Pro 2 Tablet and am wondering if Trisquel will work on it. Has anyone attempted this?

i have seen a video of someone running ubuntu on it (hardware not VM) so it should allow you to boot to trisquel

try booting to trisquel from a live USB to test if it works ok

Thanks. Ive seen the video of someone running Ubuntu as well... I guess Trisquel is similar enough. I'll give it a shot.

I finally got around to trisquelizing my Surface Pro 2 using https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/migrate-ubuntu-trisquel-without-reinstalling

I have attached an image of the resulting desktop environment.

I definitely have mixed feelings about what I'm seeing. Do I need to install the trisquel desktop or is this unity combined with trisquel desktop? Essentially, I'd like to remove the unity-based elements of this desktop like the top bar and launcher and replace them with teh trisquel defaults.

Does anyone know how to help me with this?

Thanks.

You can choose the desktop environment of your choice from the graphical login screen. You can remove Unity too. But why haven't you directly installed Trisquel (like you installed Ubuntu)?

I was afraid that since I was installing GNU/Linux on a Surface Pro 2, that non-free stuff would be needed to get the laptop running. Once I confirmed that it could I thought I'd experiemnt with the trisquelize script to see how well it worked. I have not yet tried installing Trisquel straight-away though.

It would seem your desktop is still unity. You could change that and put your preferred DE. Trisquel uses Gnome Fallback as DE by default.

You are correct! I have installed Trisquel Desktop and removed Unity.

OK, now I noticed the right-click on the keyboard will not work with Trisquel on Surface Pro 2. Hate dealing with hardware incompatibility. I think I'm going to Los Alamos Computers to get me a new box.

Alrighty, so I finally got around to trisquelizing my Surface Pro 2 (using
trisquelize.sh) ... here is an image of the result. How can I remove the
unity bars (top and side) properly?
