Trisquel does not package ubuntu-drivers-common.[1]
[1] https://devel.trisquel.info/trisquel/ubuntu-purge/blob/master/purge-xenial#L125
Can this package be fixed so that it installs? Trisquel's default
setting really mess up GNOME.

The package should probably be removed. It's a metapackage to install
Ubuntu's GNOME flavor. It's not useful in Trisquel.

Can you be more specific?

I can't describe everything. I haven't looked at everything. But
window decorations show up small. I'd really just like everything to be
set to stock GNOME defaults from upstream, no tampering.

Trisquel has no GNOME flavor, and does not customize GNOME's settings, AFAIK. Maybe there is a broken/missing package? What package(s) did you install in order to install GNOME? In any case, ubuntu-gnome-desktop is GNOME with Ubuntu customizations, not stock GNOME, so it's not what you want.
Installing package 'gnome' yields this. This is Trisquel 9.

I can't see the picture.
When will the forum software put images as attachments in the mailing list?

When someone with the ability to make that change decides to. Probably not any time soon.
Thanks!

I think that Trisquel's MATE settings are probably not the cause of whatever you're experiencing, unless you have mate-settings-daemon running during your GNOME session for some reason. Look at "System Monitor" and see if m-s-d is running. If it is, kill it. If that fixes the problem, uninstall it.
