I despise Gnome Keyring so I went to uninstall it but got worried. When I do so it warns it will also uninstall Trisquel and Trisquel-Recommended. That sounds bad. Am I good to remove it ? I hate how it prompts me for a password every time I log in. I attached a picture of the screen I see.

Removing trisquel and trisquel-recommended will not immediately cause any problems. However, it will mark certain packages as removable, which will be uninstalled the next time you run `sudo apt autoremove`. You can see what these packages are by running `sudo apt autoremove`, which will tell you what would be removed, and then you can cancel. If you `sudo apt install` any packages that you want to keep, then they will be marked as manually installed, and will never be autoremoved.

I guess you have another keyring, besides the one that is automatically unlocked when you log in. Or that keyring has a different password.

Anyway, to answer your question, "trisquel" and "trisquel-recommended" are meta-packages. Being a meta-package means only existing to ease the installation of a bunch of packages: the dependencies of the meta-package. In other words, a meta-package does not install anything by itself (except for a "changelog" file and a "copyright" file in /usr/share/doc). That is why removing a meta-package does not "break" anything. It only means you do not follow Trisquel's default set of packages. Removing any package in the default system will trigger the removal of "trisquel" and/or "trisquel-recommended".

Removing a meta-package only has an effect if Trisquel's developers change its dependencies. For example, between version 8 and version 9, "jami" was added as a dependency of the meta-package "trisquel-recommended". After an update of the distribution, the users who kept the meta-package had that SIP software automatically installed, whereas those who removed the meta-packages had not.

Thanks for the replies. I also noticed that there was an option to auto sign in every time I login which is another valid way for me to not see that popup each day. I don't know how I missed it before.
