What's the simplest way to thoroughly check for proprietary software on my computer?

Hello. I just started investigating linux, and really liked trisquel, when I live booted it from a USB. My Wi-Fi card requires proprietary drivers, and I know I can fix this with the adapter from think Penguin. https://www.thinkpenguin.com/gnu-linux/penguin-wireless-n-usb-adapter-w-external-antenna-gnu-linux-tpe-n150usbl My larger concern, is that I can only do so much system testing from a live USB, without Internet connectivity. I'm worried about other proprietary software dependent issues cropping up once I've installed and worked with a system for a while. Is there a simple and thorough way to check my system for other proprietary software dependent components, before I fully install trisquel.

I've done a bunch more testing. Thanks for the helpful suggestion about connecting directly to the wireless router, root_vegetable. The good, although slightly perplexing news, is that despite having one of the problematic graphics cards, (1024MB ATI AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series (Dell)) I don't seem to have any of the problems described above. Perhaps this is because it's a 2010 model. The bad news is, when I plug headphones into my computer I can't get any sound out of them. When I tested the latest versions of mint and lubuntu, I was able to solve this using "alsa-tools-gui" and "hdajackretask" but I don't see these packages in the trisquel repository. Any suggestions?
Good news! My sounds now working appropriately. "Alsa-tools-gui" only shows up when I search with synaptic package manager, from within settings. I couldn't find it before because it doesn't show up if you use the "add/remove applications" GUI, accessible from the start menu. Definitely going with trisquel as part of a dual-boot system, when I set it up. It's the only distro I found with a desktop environment I really like, that also has full compatibility with orca. In terms of wireless adapter, what's the community opinion on the one with the 5dBi antenna, V.S. the 9dBi upgrade?
