Kernel support for this has existed for several years already starting with version 3.16 that was released in 2014. Can you please give more information about what is driving your question?

I am using a DTLAPC14 laptop; audio does not work, I tried modifying alsamixer configuration and just got weird chirps and clicks from the speakers. The name of the chip on alsamixer is "bytcr-rt5651" not "ALC5651".

Some quick searching on the internet brought up
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1816429

It may not be precisely the same problem but it can't hurt to try a newer kernel to see. It can always be removed.

Try the latest version (5.1.)

I already installed Linux-libre 5.1 and reinstalled ALSA.
