XFCE problems anew (anold!)

I have successfully installed xfce on Trisquel on a number of devices now. Now I'm trying to get it to work on my 'new' T500 (not librebooted yet) and I encounter a problem, that I met the other times as well. I am not sure how I solved it the other times and I have no idea of why it emerges.
I install xfce through Synaptic, choosing packages xfce4 and xfce4-goodies. After installation I'm told that there are some issues with some packages/dependencies (sorry for lack of clarity/memory). I am asked to filter by 'Defect' (broken? - sorry, it's translated from Danish), since I have two defect/broken packages on my system.
It turns out to be 'e2fsprogs' and 'xfce4'.
I have tried to reinstall and I have updated and upgraded with no impprovement.
Does anyone know how to solve this?

There is a literature of this bug if you search the site, e.g., https://trisquel.info/forum/screen-tearing-and-high-cpu#comment-99720 and https://trisquel.info/en/issues/7610
A patch is behind the second link. You apparently installed Xfce before updating the system.
Thanks.
Un-installing xfce4 and running sudo update, sudo upgrade and re-installing xfce4 did it.
(I am not sure it sudo opgrade is really necessary)
In order to paste the output of <$ sudo apt-get -f install> I installed Icecat and was asked to accept to uninstall xfce4. I wonder why?
Well, it is just a metapackage so accepting and uninstalling it should not remove any other relevant (to the proper functionality of the OS) dependency, if none at all.
