In the MATE menu, under "Other" I see "Amazon" with the Amazon logo (see attached screenshot). When I click on it, Ubuntu Web Browser launches and takes me to the Amazon homepage.
I've only been using Flidas for a day, so I'm not sure if it was there upon installing or appeared later. Since "Ubuntu Web Browser" is "webbrowser-app" it could be related to my doing the following:
(1) In "Add/Remove Applications" mark "Browser" for removal.
(2) After being warned that webbrowser-app is a dependency for other applications, select "cancel."
Can you still see the Amazon icon? I have not been able to reproduce it after installing Ubuntu Web Browser.
I'm not certain that this is what caused the problem initially, but I was able to reproduce it just now with
$ sudo apt install unity-webapps-amazoncloudreader
$ sudo apt remove unity-webapps-amazoncloudreader
I just checked the reverse dependencies:
$ sudo apt-cache rdepends unity-webapps-amazoncloudreader
unity-webapps-amazoncloudreader
Reverse Depends:
So it looks like unless you install it on purpose it shouldn't have been installed by any other package. In that case it shouldn't be a problem. How did you manage to get it installed? Maybe through recommended packages?
P.D: Sorry for my late answer. Hope not to do this again in the future.
I'm not sure how I initially got the package installed, or even if that was the packaged that caused the menu item to appear. I did not discover the package until I tried to reproduce the menu item appearing. Since reporting this issue several months ago I have reinstalled Trisquel 8 multiple times, and the menu item has never appeared. I'm changing status to "can't reproduce".
