HP Printers' DRM

I recently purchased a used HP printer that came with a non-original cartridge (i.e. made by other vendor(s) than HP).

I installed the 3rd party cartridge and printed a test page. The driver prompted me that an "original" cartridge was installed. And quality of the test page was acceptable.

Thankfully the former owner of this printer never "upgraded" the firmware.
