about window manager? I think you would call it so

I always wish my desktop had more depth.
The first screenshot shows two Abrowser windows, with one of them reduced in size using the resize feature on the corners. I don't use this feature at all. Because, as you can see from the smaller screen, most of the screen is lost and you have to scroll to find what you want to see. I think it's a really useless feature. Also, you can't even restore the original size with one click. Maybe there is a way to do it, though.

The second screenshot is the same, but with two Abrowser windows, one of which is about the same size as the first case, but the screen is shrunk down. The larger one is zoomed in at 90%, while the smaller one is at 50%. It is true that the screen may be too small to use, but in my personal opinion, it is much easier to use than if most of the screen is invisible. Especially when using GIMP and other programs, I think this is much practical.

That means that I would like to be able to use the desktop in three dimensions more, in other words, when I want to make a window smaller or larger by using the size adjustment function on the corners, I want the screen to shrink or expand accordingly. Again, I personally think it would be much more practical if I could adjust it with a controller or something that should be on the top center edge of the window and it appears when the pointer is on it, but I don't know anything about window managers.
Is it possible to achieve this with the default window manager function? Are there any other window managers that can accomplish this?

By the way, it was difficult to prepare these two screenshots. Because the zoom in and out function was linked between the three or two screens...

Or something like this.

Apple's operating system may be one of the worst in terms of freedom, but I have to admire Jobs' spirit to some extent for trying to entertain people, even if it means lying to them, like cartoonists.
I was excited anyway. It is important and seems what this world lacks.

I find your idea interesting but I am not sure I got it right.

When you say you want the screen to shrink, do you mean the window contents to shrink as the window size is reduced, so that the same things remain visible in that window even though it is smaller?

I don't know any window manager that does this but I also find inconvenient to resize windows to save screen space, for the reason that you said. Long time ago, I used fvwm with virtual desktop spaces (I liked the 3x3 arrangement but more or less is possible) with a separate window (resizable too, called FvwmPager) that shows the whole space with windows in minisize and allows moving them inside and accross spaces.

Thay way, I arranged all the windows I needed once and left the session openend like that, so I never have to resize or minimize windows, I just change desktop via mouse or keyboard.

I see the latest fvwm package (I tried it on Paraola bt not on Trisquel) includes FvwmPager by default in a sidebar, which is not at all what I want but this is certainly configurable.

FvwmPager is what you can see at the bottom right on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenBSD#/media/File:Openbsd61_desktop.png but I make this window much bigger so that I can more easily use it.

Maybe that could help you, maybe not.

Anyway, I will search for your interesting idea as well.

I am pretty sure the window manager cannot do that: the content of the window is the responsibility of the program running "in it". For instance PDF viewers usually have "Fit Page" and "Fit Width".

I just installed Compiz. And after tried the command "compiz --replace", all windows do not move. All close box, maximize box(?), minimize box(?) on windows disappeared. Sometimes switching other windows by mouth and the pointer and clicking work. Would someone help me? How to fix this?

OK, I succeeded in deleting Compiz. Something still seems a bit wrong... but solved.

Is this manual valid for Trisquel 9 MATE?

compizconfig-settings-manager can be run by entering the command

ccsm

for compiz if you want the close maximize options in windows, you'll want to enable "window decoration"

under window decoration, for command I have something like

"compiz-decorator --replace --marco-theme $PUTYOURDESIREDTHEMEHERE"

change $PUTYOURDESIREDTHEMEHERE to whatever you want, theme names can come from the default mate appearances or whatever, but maybe you don't need to change the value for command.

I don't get it. The instruction seems to be based on what you would do in the Gnome desktop environment Trisquel 7.

My question is whether there is a problem doing this in the Mate environment Trisquel 9.

I know well that Trisquel easily breaks (reinstall).

"My question is whether there is a problem doing this in the Mate environment Trisquel 9."

I honestly I am not sure.

You could do those things in gnome or mate (previous and more current versions I'd imagine). mate-tweak, will let you switch between window managers, conveniently, just in case one is being a bit too buggy and not wanting to show window decorations.

good luck

Thank you very much.
I'm still too scared to click on "Compiz (Advanced GPU accelerated desktop effects)" on that setting page, but I'll try it when I'm ready and have more time. It's not something I have to do right now.
If someone tried it before I do, please let me know if you got any problems.
