It seems interesting but I am unclear on the need for blobs to do things like hardware acceleration when they're using the standard Linux kernel.

My APT repository for Linux-libre has builds for 32-bit ARMv7 and 64-bit ARMv8 that have both of these Lima and Panfrost drivers enabled. It would be great if someone could try them and provide information on how things work when there aren't any proprietary pieces anywhere.

Until then I am trying to leave my response to this development as a bit guarded since the complete information isn't known.

If we have to worry about blobs, we might as well go back to software rendering.

Actually, software rendering might be an interesting solution. If you can get your hands on an epyc and reverse-engineer the firmware and blobs, you should run openarena very well.

It has a gpu Mali400MP2. Is it such a device you had in
mind? If so, then write me instructions. It is the same gpu
which the pinephone has.
