Hello. My name is Sam, and this is my 1st day of using Trisquel 11.0. In one of PC at my work place (Acer X2640 , if im not mistaken). English wasnt my 1st languange , so forgive me if my grammar looks terrible &/or you will struggle to understand what im trying to say.
Im new in GNU/Linux world & my reason to try it ,is because a lot of PCs at my work already old & feel so slow (90% PCs in my office using Windows 7 ,8) & i think Linux is the best solution for that.
I have been installed 2 other old & low spec PCs with L.Mint & Q4OS (only for open Excel/Spreadsheet & local web browsing). It feels faster than before. But one of the thing that confuses me is i have to install & setup Samba just to open Folders Sharing from other Pcs in my office network.
After trying 4 different Linux Distro , i finally found & try Trisquel. And its already had Network Service in the desktop! One click & all other PCs show up. Nice!
And i also could connect to FTP server of my head office with relatively easy & without install any apllication
But as the title suggest ,the Folder sharing & FTP shortcut i've made ,gone after restart. And had to input user/password again eveytime i try to open them
Is there any way to make My Folder sharing & FTP shortcut permanently stay at desktop/file manager after i restart my Pcs?
Again ,im a beginner ,please use simple terms in the answer.
Many Thanks in advance.
Welcome to this forum!
If you use the defaut file manager from Trisquel, when you try a path with ftp, a window opens that asks to enter username and password for the ftp site, and it has 3 options below, to immediately forget the password, to remember it until the end of the session, or to remember it forever. If you select the last option, you should not have to re-enter the username and password every time.
I attach a picture showing this (it is not in English, but the positions should be the same).
If you have not already created a keyring, you will be ask to create one, with a password. For simplicity, you could choose the same password like when you open a session. You may be asked to type the keyring password after opening a session, but it will only occur once for all ftp sites, or email accounts, or other accounts that you usually connect to.
