AMD allowing to disable PSP on Ryzen CPU systems.
https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=AMD-PSP-Disable-Option
This sounds promising, if it is true. However, as I understand it, such a move does not necessarily mean that they will cooperate with allowing free firmware to be ported to it, or that there won't be other issues, like requirements for signed microcode.
I really do...
If true it seems like it come in the form of updates from the motherboard vendor so one must still wait for them to provide such an update.
Notice the title there on Phoronix where it's AMD "allows" you to. Don't forget that it's still proprietary, user-subjugating software regardless. So "allows" seems very appropriate here because it's like "the higher-level master (AMD) is now allowing the second-level master (the motherboard vendor) to allow their lowly subject to turn off something." But: Both masters must be in agreement for this to happen, or it won't.
If it does you can say: Oh thank you, dual level of masters, for allowing me a choice.
Freedom means not having a master. The better answer seems to be to forget all the shenanigans that the dual-layers of masters are up to and move to libreboot so that your computer will obey you, not someone else. Where you are the master that decides what the computer does (or doesn't do) and are not the subject of a master that decides for you.
I write to Dr. Lisa Su, the CEO of AMD, regularly to make their graphics drivers more Libre friendly. I cannot get dual monitors with Trisquel on any AMD machine, which sucks. It is good that they are getting better with Linux drivers, for multimedia work, like video editing, It always could be better though. But to get them working on a Libre OS is the holy grail. I will be writing another letter to Dr Lisa Su (I keep it civil and friendly) and I am sure she knows me by now. She probably expects letters from me by now. ; - b (nah) So now is your chance, folks. What should I ask to help fellow Trisquelites? What would be a dream gift from AMD to the Libre community? What phrasings should I use and technical terminology? I will put all that in and let you folks know if she responds.
AMD is completely ignorant. Why someone needs open-source GPU drivers, when you need huge blobs to use with.
I better hold with Intel CPU and GPU, I can use CPU with coreboot+me_cleaner. Here is nothing like psp_cleaner. Also, all AMD's GPUs need blobs to work.
@vita_cell Beware of Intel blood CPU's which are manufactured on occupied land. Avoid buying new ones, please just use repurposed ones like LibreLeah's if you really have to

The factory is still going strong. While software freedom is vital to the interest of all humanity, so are freedom of humans who are in the world's largest, open air prison.
This book helps clarify.

Free Occupied Palestine.

I won't buy new Intel CPUs, newer ones comes with better ME(NSA inside) and bootguard shit.
Ahh, so you also know about this:

Yeah!

Nah, they are not ignorant, rather they take advantage of people's ignorance...
'Look John, my gpu runs great with my open sores driver' exclaims Ferginand while all along totally ignoring the concept of 'firmware'
We will not get anywhere unless we specifically ask these companies what we want, such as to not exploit labour, fabricate on occupied land, or sprinkle our hardware with proprietary firmware. These companies have more than enough money and resources to not behave this way. There are small companies who try to build hardware from scratch so we can have free software, which is a great idea. You would think these profitable bigger companies who have the budget to try different things and test new product ideas, like proprietary firmware free hardware, would actually do something about it. The ideas of free software are pretty much known in computer science clubs throughout the world. So I cannot understand why they no longer exist once these engineers join a corporation. You would think *some* of these ideas would hold. Same with people I know personally who abide by free software in school and then become Mac fanatics after. It's weird.
Dude intel """"""only"""""" gained 56 bilions of dollars last year, it's obviously not enough for them...
Seriously fuck intel and amd, they don't realize that they can build cpu without backdoors and other shit and still make BILLIONS of dollars.
The problem is that most of the people don't really care about their privacy and they have no idea at all of how a computer works, so for a big part of the people on earth this isn't really a problem, i think we need to spread our ideas but the problem is that trisquel fsf and libreboot don 't earn money without donations and they can't compete vs intel microsoft and apple, they can't really reach most of the "public".
Another problem are non free distro, personaly when i first used GNU/LINUX ubuntu was my choice i thought that i was using only free software but in reality this wasn't true, and this is a problem, many people make confusion betweeen open source and free software and they don't know the difference at all.
Also i think non free distros like ubuntu mint etc shouldn't allow proprietary drivers or proprietary programs and prefer free or at least open source software, GNU/linux is the different choice right? then why include proprietary software in it? I think is a really bad thing and kill the idea of the project.
Non free hardware is another problem but we have thinkpads at least.
I have big hopes for EOMA68 maybe that can change things.
>We will not get anywhere unless we specifically ask these companies what we want, such as to not exploit labour, fabricate on occupied land, or sprinkle our hardware with proprietary firmware. These companies have more than enough money and resources to not behave this way.
Well, it seems to me what they need, crave and want is profit, not saving the earth or exporting democracy to the world or making sure all babies are warm and cuddled come the end of the day..
So, if you want a corporation to listen to what you have to say you will need to focus and direct all your energy, effort, and words into making them believe they will earn more if they listen to you.
If not, you can talk tehm about them babies and the green leafs turning radioactive but yeah, time lost.
My 2 centavo$ anyway. :/
