depressing GNU/Linux thread on G+

I don't even know where to start with the negativity on this thread. Wondered if the Free Software afficionados here might have some thoughts. https://plus.google.com/u/0/110953740010395822648/posts/USmJQUdhLue
I find nothing depressing in that thread and also nothing new; some people are into freedom and some are into gratis.
That's what you consider depressing? I've seen way worse than that.
Funny how they consider GNU/Linux a "Windows 8 alternative". I consider Windows an "alternative". ;)
One of the users said how he liked the idea of proprietary drivers on GNU/Linux. But how does that then differ from Mac OSX, or other operating systems?
Depressing? Slightly. But "nobody" cared much about free software when GNU was created and plenty of progress has been made since then. It's best to ignore it rather than let you down. :)
good points Andrew :) and encouraging, thnx.
lol yeah I know... it's pretty mild really, maybe it's reflecting my general mood at the moment, it doesn't take much to shoot down all my enthusiasm.
edited to add: discouraging would have been a better choice of word than depressing. especially "collectively we wouldn't add up to a rounding error on anyone's balance sheets today" ...
though I'd challenge that if there was any point (the author sounds like one of those who is fond of having the last artfully phrased word)
I'm not even reading the thread. Don't worry too much about the people who don't care. RMS always moves on when people just don't get it/care/etc. It is pretty funny really. He has made a good point on it though. These people are not worth your time. Nothing you say is going make such people agree with you. Focus on the people who do get it. There the ones who matter. There are plenty of people who just don't know better.
Some people don't care now. If you try to explain maybe the person agree with you. Depends.
Before 2009 I dont' knew nothing about free software. I started knowing "open source", Ubuntu and the most of free software ironically at websites about Macs and Apple world. (I was a Mac and OS X user for many years)
And 2010 I read about GNU, Unix and many things about computers in Wikipedia. I don't know any free software supporter and only web help me.
(And it help me learn English too) =)
RMS ignores only those people who won't get it after he has tried to explain it to them. As Chris said, there is no point wasting your time and effort with people who just don't get it. There is only so much a single person can do with his time, so it would be best to just move on and find people who listens. If RMS would have stopped to argue and forcefully tried to make everyone he meets to agree with him, we wouldn't have a successful GNU project today.
Exactly.
If a person does not "get it" and is arguing with you just move on. It is one thing if they just don't understand the problem and another if they disagree with your assessment.
Not enough people really understand that here. We let trolls get to us. Correct errors. Keep it short and simple. Then move on.
