Disabling sticky Alt+Fn

Something on the to-do list is try to resolve the function key issue with my Advent laptop.
An example, if I press Alt F6 (Volume down), the key press "sticks" so its as if I'm holding it down. The same thing happens with the other functions. The whole keyboard works fine if not using Alt+fn key combination.
Any one have any ideas how to stop the "sticky key"?

Does it stick/repeat functionality in more than one application?
Have you investigated mechanical problems with the keyboard?
Does the problem occur with both R and L Alt?

Its one of the charms of a cheap laptop. I thought the keyboard was failing so tried with a keyboard check and its working fine I think its how the keyboard buffer works?

Which desktop environment are you using? You could try using the actual "Sticky Keys" configuration and see if that helps, as a workaround. In MATE this is set in Keyboard Preferences -> Accessibility -> Sticky Keys. If you check the first option, you should be able to press Alt, release it, then press the function key, instead of having to press both keys at once. So you would be doing two short single key presses instead of one longer simultaneous key press.
