Which do you prefer and why do you think is better? I heard krita is getting really good :)

I've used both and I think each is suitable for a different activity. Krita works very well with graphic tablets and feels tailored towards people who use them. However, it also has some neat editing features which should allow the artist to do pretty much all of their work in Krita, from start to end.

GIMP, on the other hand, doesn't feel like a drawing program at all; at least not by default. I often read it's intended for photo manipulation rather than image creation, which is also what I use it for and I have to agree with the saying.

Why not Krita?

Well, for starters I have no idea how to draw. In fact an average 5 yr old kid is still 5 times better at it than me.

Why GIMP?
Coz it's awesome and you can do very nice work with it after playing for a couple of hours. GIMP is intuitive, easy and powerful. Learning how to use it like a pro is not easy at all though, especially if u are lazy like me. :)

EDIT: forgot to attach an image. It's a 5 minutes shitty GIMP work. I like making shitty GIMP memes.

I was using GIMP for everything until two years ago, image manipulation and drawing with a graphic tablet. Now I use GIMP for image manipulation and Krita just for drawing, which has better brush engine and drawing tools.

Just depends what you are going to use it for. In case of doubt, use GIMP.
