Does anyone play performous (karaoke game)

Does anyone here play Performous?
If so, would you guys like to share/trade songs with the time file already included?
I like to play it with my girlfriend, but it's a pain always having to go and get the times for a song, get a mp3 file that actually fits the times... Thought if more people played it, we could like trade with one another the files we already have that work well enough :)
Sounds like there could be a place for a free song repository, using free formats which can work not just Performous, but any other UltraStar forks that are still active, and any other libre karaoke game anyone decides to make. Copyright issues would have to be considered, but maybe focus on songs people like to sing/play that are under CreativeCommons.
How do people feel about songs under an NC clause? I know it's not full libre, but I have sympathy with musicians wanting people to freely share their music, but not wanting record companies to sell it without their permission if they manage to build an audience. Accepting songs under NC license would vastly expand the number of songs that could be included.
To be honest I don't mind at the moment using copyrighted songs as it is a familiar use.
But regarding your points, yes I agree that "entertainment" works should be accepted in a NC license.
Anyway, does anyone plays it, and care to share a few songs? If we could find a host would be perfect.
Well, it's their reason reason. We won't know unless we ask every single
one of them.
But then, come to think of it: Audio files are non-functional data, so
there's no need for them to have all the freedoms as functional data
like software have[1].
However, we must still study the case of audio step timings for use in
games like Frets on Fire, StepMania, and Performous. And this case
puzzles me for the following reasons:
Perhaps my view of functional data is a little misaligned, but I think
that, although the step timing seems to fit as something with which
practical things can be made with, it alone isn't able to aid on making
things based on the step timings. Instead, it seems to depend on other
non-functional data. I see this situation as a ODT file, where you can
save things, move things around, but it depends on document editors,
text fonts, multimedia, and so on, but you can't really create a
software using only that ODT file, but instead, you can create other
documents.
I believe I gave a perfectly legitimate reason in my original reply.
(off-topic tangent)
There is an ongoing dispute, as mentioned by ADFENO, about whether non-functional data under non-free licenses create any ethical problems or not. Stallman and the FSF seem to think they don't. Debian project seems to think they do.
Even as a longtime advocate of copyleft CC licenses, I personally agree with RMS that the Debian project policy against even asserting a trademark, so users can clearly distinguish between one group's version of a software and another group's, is an under-thought knee-jerk reaction against any form of "intellectual property". In other words, they have fallen into the exact trap of mixing up patents, copyrights, and trademarks that Stallman warns against [1], instead of evaluating each of these legal traditions on its own merits.

(/off-topic tangent)
Just a precision: rms insists that anyone should be free to redistribute exact copies of the work. Even if non-functional. All Creative Common licenses satisfy that point. But the default copyright (on most non-free works) does not.
Thanks, that was an excellent read-- before reading, I was on the fence about NC licenses. Now, I'm not.

enjoy libre people!! :)
LoooL, what it is? what it does?
you click on it and it plays a audio file of rms singing the free software song
Can't enjoy, it talks about "open source"... something Stallman has never proposed.

lembas: I haven't installed it because I like to keep the minimum amount of addons in my browser. The addon is free software. What exactly are you talking about?
I believe he is talking about the description of the add-on that says:
[T]he FSS has the power to cleanse you of the influence of those filthy, *closed-source* licenses and inspire all those within ear shot to devote themselves thoroughly and totally to the *open source software initiative*.
The emphasis is mine.
Yup, also the silhouette graphic of Stallman that makes him look like a bit like Che Guevara. Now Che is a hero of mine, but the graphic makes an implied propaganda claim that Stallman is some kind of "communist", which would be fine with me, but it's just not true. So that, along with the terminology issues pointed out by Lembas and MagicBanana, gives me the impression that the purpose of this add-on is to mock Stallman, and trivialize software freedom issues.
Also browser add-ons are a waste of resources, making an already bloated and unstable piece of software even worse, and should be avoided like the plague unless they serve an *essential* purpose.
Banana nailed it.
lembas: let me see. You criticize a free software addon because in the description it talks about open source? That I can understand I guess. But, to clarify, you **refuse** to use an addon that is free software just because in the description there is the word "opensource"?
> But, to clarify, you **refuse** to use an addon that is free software just because in the description there is the word "opensource"?
I never said so.
Isn't Performous a little bit like fofix (frets on fire)? If so, I've been working on some songs for fofix with lyrics. I've been using guitar pro taps and EOF (editor on fire) 1.8 to get the tones and lyrics right. EOF 1.8 as a new function called "Import GP style lyric text" http://dwsk.proboards.com/thread/2013/importing-lyrics-tabs
Also, EOF has another option to import guitar pro taps (gp5 and under) which can be use to get the tones from the vocals part of a guitar pro file.
I honestly have no idea. But if you have a file that you want me to test I will gladly report it back to you :)
Try this one. I'm pretty sure it would work since Performous website says it is compatible with fofix songs and more.

If so, the following user has a lot of rock band games that have lyrics and a few guitar hero that do too:

I made Johnny B. Goode my self.
Performous is not working in Trisquel 7 :(
I downloaded the file you provided and installed Performous to try it, but it fails to launch!
It used to work ok with Debian whezzy :(
It gives me error similar to this:
ALSA lib pcm.c:2239:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM cards.pcm.rear
ALSA lib pcm.c:2239:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM cards.pcm.center_lfe

What can I do?? :(
I compiled Performous master in my computer and is working fine. Maybe there is a dependency you haven't installed? Did you compile from source too?
I follow the instructions form here:
https://github.com/performous/performous/wiki/Building-and-installing-from-source
Maybe installing the dependencies may solve the problem:
sudo apt-get install git-core cmake build-essential gettext help2man \
libepoxy-dev libsdl2-dev libcairo2-dev libpango1.0-dev librsvg2-dev \
libboost-all-dev libavcodec-dev libavformat-dev libswscale-dev libavresample-dev \
libpng-dev libjpeg-dev libxml++2.6-dev portaudio19-dev \
libopencv-dev libportmidi-dev
If you want to compile it you'll need to install cmake too and do the following:
#cd to the source
mkdir build #make a directory call build
cd build
cmake ../
make
If everything goes right, you should see an executable in the build folder that you can run to play the game.
Also, I had to install libepoxy-dev_1.2-1_amd64 and libepoxy0_1.2-1_amd64 on my own since only 1.1 was available in trisquel's repos and the compiler says it's required. Hope this helps.
I installed it from the repos, it should work and install all dependencies on its own... right?
Oh, I didn't know it was available in the repos :)
Anyway, I get the same messages that you get when starting it on terminal but it's working fine on my pc:
ALSA lib pcm.c:2239:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM cards.pcm.rear
ALSA lib pcm.c:2239:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM cards.pcm.center_lfe

So I don't think that that gives any info on the problem your having. Is there any .performous directory in your user dir? Maybe there is a log there, does it just don't run or does it opens and then closes? Any way, I will suggest that whatever you find, you should go to the performous' github and ask there: https://github.com/performous/performous/issues
It just doesn't open. I will try to have a look at the logs when I get the patient to do so :P
I thank you for your help, and if I get this solved I will get back to you as your file worked or not.
