Can anyone recommend a current model dot matrix printer that works well with Trisquel 7?

To follow-up, I'm interested in the Epson LQ590 and Okidata Microline 320, but would consider others that might work. Looking for reliability, long print head and ribbon life. I didn't find much on H-node.

Bump... still looking for suggestions. Looking to move away from the cost and waste of inkjet printing.

I have no idea. You might have luck checking on h-node.

Didn't find anything there. I may end up buying one from a store with an easy return policy.

I don't know what kind of compatibility you are looking for. Dot matrix printers are not well suited for graphics printing, including host-rendered custom fonts, so the best course is using one of the the printer's onboard fonts, which minimizes compatibility issues. I had once used OKI Microline-182 with printer's embedded font set without problems.

Also linuxprinting.org may be good place to start. ( http://www.openprinting.org/printers?action=search )

According to http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Oki/Oki-ML_320 OKI Microline-320 seems to work "perfectly" (including graphical printing, I assume) with a free driver.

That's all very helpful. Thanks!

In some cases DOT Matrix is a necessary evil. If you need to print on carbon-copy forms and have the print go through all copies this is the only way to efficiently achieve it. You could also use a type-writer or Bic...but I digress.

The best thing I can suggest is looking at what new models are available on the market and then trying to find them list at https://www.openprinting.org/printers

If you happen to find a compatible device, please add it to h-node.org.

alucardx: "If you happen to find a compatible device, please add it to h-node.org"

openprinting.org is dedicated to printing whereas h-node.org encompasses all hardware. Openprinting's printer -and knowledge- base is so huge that it would be a serious duplication of effort to import -and track- them all into h-node. I think it makes better sense to link to openprinting's database from within h-node.org.

I see what you mean, but I think the effort might still have merit. We don't need to have EVERY printer from openprinting.org input into h-node. We only need to add the ones that someone has experience with using under a Libre GNU/Linux distro.
