Fully accessible Trisquel!

One of my goals at the Free Software Foundation this summer is to start work on a completely free and fully accessible distribution of GNU/Linux based on Trisquel, which I'm using for my work at the Foundation.
How cool is that! :-)
That's pretty cool. I don't know if there are any operating systems in existence yet, free or otherwise, that have installers that are fully accessible to people with vision impairments, so that'll be a good thing to have.

I never knew about software that allows blind people to operate a computer. This is pretty badass! My biggest respect for people who don't give up even after such a handicap.

It's based on Ubuntu and scripted to start speaking through the installation as soon as possible. Ubuntu is switching from gnome to Debian and that may cause some problems for the Vinux developers. If Trisquel is keeping the gnome repositories, there may be room to collaborate with each other. I'm not a developer, but I've loaded Vinux on several computers for VI users and they are pleasantly surprised since they've also been M$ Windows users and couldn't imagine how Linux operated or how Linux could provide accessible features - free! How can I find out more about the progress of the accessible features enhancement project in Trisq?

Huh? From a desktop environment to an entire distribution?
Don't you mean that they're moving from gnome to their own mashed
together GUI?
Indeed, Ubuntu has always been based on Debian GNU/Linux and I believe you mean Ubuntu has chosen Unity as a Shell. However every popular alternative (e.g., the recent GNOME-Shell) remains installable from the repository and I do not understand the problem it makes for someone cooking her own distribution from these packages. Trisquel is such a distribution (although, importantly, it has its own repository which mainly is a copy of Ubuntu's minus proprietary software).

11.04 ubuntu: you can choose "Ubuntu classic" from the gdm log-in
switcher. (This gives Classic Gnome Desktop) also.

Just remember that "Ubuntu Classic" goes bye bye with 11.10 and is replaced with Unity 2D meaning you will need LXDE or XFCE to get a more traditional desktop.

My understanding is that Trisquel will not be adopting Unity.
So they are using Gnome 3 Shell instead? Talk about a step back in desktop interaction and ugly looks.

According to quidam ( http://trisquel.info/fr/forum/which-desktop-next-trisquel#comment-8957 ), the main developer of Trisquel, our distribution will use GNOME 3 but *without* GNOME-Shell. The main reason is its dependency on a recent version of OpenGL that not all Free graphic drivers handle well (e.g., nouveau) or at all (e.g., radeon).
Yeah thats what i tought.
And no unity or Shell is exactly what i want :)
