Fun with login screen backgrounds

Hi,
I've been beating my head against a wall trying to change the background on the login screen on the latest version of Trisquel. There is tons of info out on the web to configure LightDM, none of which seems to apply to Trisquel. Has anyone been able to change the login screen background? Thanks for any info!!!

You can rename the image you want to use to the name of the default background image. It's quick and you don't need to install anything, but it's just a hack and isn't so elegant as the other solutions presented here.
