I am trying to install Trisquel 7 on a T60. On the 60GB hdd there was a Windows 7 installtion with some sort of recovery function.
For other reasons I have tried to install in text mode and via live boot. Near the end I get a message that the installation failed due to lack of space; only a few MB, e.g. 32.4 MB!
When running Gparted I get a long list of error messages like
(gpartedbin:5079): Glib-CRITICAL **: Sourde ID 11 was not found when attempting to remove it
The gpartedbin number doesn't change but the source IDs differ, 11 being the lowest and 1643 the highest. I would guess that there about 40 or 50 Source IDs in the equal amount of error messages.
Gparted will start but first I have to ignore the message
Libparted Bug Found!
Invalid partition table - recursive partition on /dev/sdb
to which I can choose 'Cancel' or Ignore'. The latter starts Gparted.
When creating a new partition I get the same Libparted Bug error message
I hve searched and found some discussions and site discussion the error messages, but I can't seem to find a useful answer.
Any suggestions for a solution (and diagnose) will be much appreciated.
The libparted bug error shows up because you are running gparted on a live medium, I always get that message when I do that.
I don't know why there isn't enough space, maybe it is a strangely partitioned disk, but unless you provide more info I can only speculate.
Anyway, it's safe to click 'cancel' when the libparted bug message shows up. When you can use gparted like you normally would, just go to the T60's HDD and then make a new partition table in the menu 'device'.

There are som estrange things going on here. So I have now tried to do a fresh install several times. I created the live usb by use of dd. In this case I used Trisquel Mini and afterwards I had an error that made me run
sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude install gtkorphan
sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude upgrade
After this I got some error messages in the terminal saying a was lacking space (sorry - I didn't copy the message and I'm quite tired at the moment so I don't recall the phrasing).
Right now I am re-trying with a standard Trisquel live usb pen drive.
Hmm, maybe you should try making a new partition table with GNU parted instead of gparted. This can be done with parted /dev/sdX where X is the letter of your HDD. And then typing mklabel gpt Also try installing with a netinstall image after that.
Please let me know if this helped at all, I don't really know what would cause such error messages.

At the moments I am trying a different approach. If that doesn't work, I'll try your idea. Thanks.
I discovered that I couldn't even format the drive by use of the disk utility's standard 'format' option. I did make it format though (it seems; at least the progress bar is moving). In the disk utility program I first created a partition covering the full hdd and then ask it to format, overwriting the whole disk with 0's. It's a small disk, so it'll only tale about 30 minutes.
You can just make a new partition table. GParted offers this functionality but you can also use dd (always be careful with dd, it can be very destructive).

Using the normal Trisquel image made no difference. Near the end of installation I get a message that there is only about 5MB of space left. Gparted tells me that the 4GB swap partition I have created is of an unknown file system and gives me a warning triangle. I wonder what this is all about. I have done this kind of installations time and again...
I just tried installing a different distro (Mint) to see what would happen. I also don't get to install that and I have used that live usb pen drive several times on other machines. There must be something wrong with the machine or the hard drive
