Our friends at gNewSense have made available the long-awaited 3.0
"Parkes" release. Unlike previous releases which were based on Ubuntu,
this release is based on Debian. It is a modified version of Debian 6.0
"Squeeze", the now oldstable Debian release.

gNewSense 3.0 comes with support for both x86[-64] and MIPS. MIPS is the
type of CPU used on the Lemote Yeeloong, sometimes known as the "RMS
computer".

Head over to their website for the announcement and download links:

Hooray! This is a good day for freedom! That's one thing I'll have to take for a spin.

Funny how Trisquel and gNewSense are like goofy twins, Trisquel was originally based on Debian but switched to Ubuntu, gNewSense did exactly the opposite. :)

Congratulations gNewSense!

finally has arrived. I've waited for it for a long time, gnewsense 2.3 has been a distro I installed practically anywhere. I think I will dual-boot with trisquel :-P

There needs to be a libre version of Ubuntu and I'm glad Trisquel is sticking with it. Ubuntu is probably the most popular version of GNU/Linux with its robust PPAs on launchpad.net and high priority for developers.
