GNU Emacs info pages

Hi,
Were the Emacs info pages packaged in Trisquel? I'd expect them to be somewhere in
emacs-common or emacs-common-gfdl packages but they are not there.
It seems that the emacs-common-gfdl package was supposed to contain them but it's effectively empty:
$ dpkg-query -L emacs-common-gfdl

Is it a packaging error or I'm missing something?
Type C-h i. The buffer that opens says:
This (the Directory node) gives a menu of major topics.
Typing "q" exits, "H" lists all Info commands, "d" returns here,
"h" gives a primer for first-timers,
"mEmacs" visits the Emacs manual, etc.
I know these commands very well, I just have no info pages for Emacs installed in my system (as well as for Gnus, Org Mode, etc). 10.0.1, Nabia. "locate elisp.info.gz" shows nothing. "info emacs" shows me the info man page. Could you please tell me which package your emacs.info.gz belongs to?
Sorry I read your post too quickly. I actually reach the same conclusion as you: it looks like emacs-common-gfdl "includes the core Emacs documentation" (it is what its description says) but it essentially includes nothing. In info mode, "mEmacs" only gives the Emacs FAQ.

The emacs documentation package has a love/hate relationship with Trisquel due to Debian naming it as a DFSG offender because it contains the GNU Manifesto which is "unchangeable" - apparently a serious no-no in DFSG land.
So from your conversation here, I would imagine that Trisquel is back in the hate side of love/hate again.

Yes, this is the old story, but throwing away docs would definitely not be a sane choice. Isn't Trisquel based on Ubuntu anyways? AFAIK Debian stores GFDL docs in the "non-free" repo and Ubuntu stores them in emacs-common-non-dfsg package. What is a problem to let this package into the Trisquel repo or just repackage it if its name and/or contents is offending to someone? This is just crazy that the FSDG GNU/Linux distro has no docs for the GNU Emacs!

That's exactly what emacs-common-gfdl is, the core documentation.

What does "dpkg-query -L emacs-common-gfdl" show in your installation?
For Trisquel 10 the package emacs-common-gfdl is only available in the nabia-updates repository, so this needs to be enabled if it's not already;

It is enabled. And the package is shallow.

Ah, this should probably be reported to the Trisquel people using the link Magic Banana. A workaround in the meantime could be to grab the .deb from the matching version of Ubuntu? https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/emacs-common-non-dfsg

I think that Debian places Emacs documentation outside of the core
package repopsitory in order to get back at Stallman for calling Debian
non-free. They have no reason to do that now, since they have nonfree
firmware on the core repositories.
I would love the GNU Manifesto to be everywhere. But if it is a reason
to exclude it from some places, the license should be changed to one
which allows modification. The harm is much larger to get the Emacs
documentation excluded with its greatest contribution "GNU Manifiesto",
than to let it be modified.
