How to install MATE and remove KDE

I just installed Trisquel 8.0 with KDE. I'm not sure if I like KDE. I would like to try MATE instead. How can I install MATE so I can try it instead?

If I then decide to use MATE, I won't need KDE anymore. So how would I uninstall KDE?

Thanks :)

$ sudo apt install trisquel

At that point you might as well reinstall Trisquel using the regular
ISO. If for some reason this is not an option, you could try running

$ sudo apt remove triskel
$ sudo apt remove plasma-*
$ sudo apt autoremove

This might not remove every trace of KDE, though.

Thank you for your quick reply.

This is just a test install on a spare hard drive before I upgrade my main SSD from Trisquel 7 to Trisquel 8, so I will try to get KDE working, if not I'll try MATE and if that's good then I'll do a fresh MATE install from the ISO.

Thanks for the tips

You can try the default desktop environment from the live system too. If you really want to install it alongside KDE (what means two applications for most tasks), install both "trisquel" and "trisquel-recommended".
