How to Install Trisquel 6.0

I need to update to the newest version of Trisquel and I'm not sure how to do it. In the documentation, it showed me how to upload Trisquel 6.0 to a usb so I can launch it from USB, but I would like to replace the version I have on my comp with the updated version.
Any help with this is much appreciated.
I've attempted to:
"To use it edit the /etc/apt/sources.list file on your system and add the line:
deb http://jxself.org/repo/freesh/ freesh main
You should also fetch and install the GPG key with which the repository is signed, with the commands:
wget http://jxself.org/repo/freesh/archive-key.asc
sudo apt-key add archive-key.asc "
but it won't let me update the sources.list file. I thought I was logged in with root privileges? Is there a way I don't have root access? This is my machine, and I entered my password upon login. . .
First, make a backup of anything you don't want to lose, just in case.
Then try updating using the update manager. It should allow you to update to 6.0.
What version are you now on?
lsb_release -a
Trisquel 5.5, brigantia
The update manager won't update to the newest version. Is there a setting there that I'm missing? It is the first place I went to update to version 6
What sources do you use?
If you have the 6.0 on a USB stick, you could of course just install it. Just make sure you choose manual partitioning and choose to NOT format your existing home partition. (Then again, even this won't be a problem since by now you surely have a backup! :)

So i just plug-in the usb and then follow the prompt to install version 6 on my computer?

That's right. And at partitioning choose the old root (/) for root and select to format it and choose the old home for home and DON'T format it and the old swap for swap.

When upgrading to a new release, I've always done as suggested in #6. Allow the installer to format '/'; mount your old '/home' (do not allow formatting), and mount the old swap. When your new system comes up, you'll see all your users' files. Be sure to use the same username, in the new install, as you have in 5.5.
I forgot to mention using the same username, good thing you brought it up!
