jmp how do you send sms and calls to a phone?
- Anmelden oder Registrieren um Kommentare zu schreiben
I got the xmpp account and
jmp number. I am not
located in america.
What can jmp do? Can it
send sms and place
calls from a
x86 computer to an
ordinary cellular android
or iphone?
On a x86 computer, can jmp
receive sms and calls
from these
phones? Instructions if
it is possible? Thanks.
Can you use jitsi desktop
to send and
receive sms and calls?
Thank you.
JMP recommend Gajim.

Yes. Note though that the only JMP instance so far (cheogram.com) uses a
North American carrier, so your JMP number will be a North American
number (beginning with +1), in case that's a problem for you.
Here's how the JMP dev explained the situation to me:
"we don't have any numbers outside Canada and the US yet - we're working
on that, but the pricing will be significantly different for those
(because international carriers charge more), and we're trying to figure
out how to integrate them so they don't feel too different as a result
"we've asked around (including in the Soprani.ca group chat), but no one
has been able to recommend any international carriers for us to use.
especially not any that support picture messaging and short codes. and
we'd ideally like to keep feature parity with the Canadian/US JMP
numbers"
> Instructions if it is possible? Thanks.
To send SMS, send a XMPP messge to name at domain, where
+RXXXXXXXXXX is the recipient's phone number. The +R is the region
code,[1] so for a South American number it would look like
name at domain.
The recipient will receive your message as a SMS message, and if they
respond you will receive their reply as a XMPP message.
To make a voice call, simply place a SIP call to +RXXXXXXXXXX.

I'm not familiar with Jitsi, so I don't know if it supports the XMPP or
SIP protocols. If not, it will not work with JMP. You'll need a XMPP
client (like Gajim, Pidgin, or Conversations) and a SIP client (like
Linphone or Ekiga).
You have written about jmp
previously. But I did not get to test it.
About it being an american phone number.
Can I send sms and place jmp calls if
I am not located in america?
Can I sms and place calls to outside
of america?
https://desktop.jitsi.org/
Jitsi desktop supports sip. Do I add a new
sip account in jitsi? Jitsi desktop
asks for sip id and psswd. Do I enter
my jmp id?
name at domain
Do I have a psswd for
the account?
Do you know a well running
sip provider?
> About it being an american phone number. Can I send sms and place jmp

It doesn't matter where you are located.
> Can I sms and place calls to outside of america?
International SMS is supported, as long as the person you are talking to
can receive messages from North American phone numbers. Calls are
technically supported, but not encouraged. According to the dev:
"you should be able to also do international voice calls now as well -
we haven't advertised it since it's more expensive for us, but while in
alpha it's still included (in the total minutes)"

You should have been given a SIP ID and password when you were signing
up for JMP. If your XMPP address is user at domain, then your SIP ID
should be
name at domain
Your password is three words separated by spaces. You should have seen
this password when signing up. If not, contact the dev at
name at domain and ask how to reset the password. I'm not
sure how to do it.
> International SMS is supported
I got these accounts
12345678901()cheogram.com
I do not have a psswd for this account. If
it was displayed while registering a
jmp account, then I did not notice
it.
1234567890()xmpp.org
psswd 1234567890
1234567890()sip.org
psswd 1234567890
In jitsi you can add a
sip account
and a
xmpp account.
Or for the xmpp account I can
use gajim.
I want to send an sms to
phone number 1234567890
How?

What is your *XMPP* address that you created during step 1 of these
instrcutions?[1] You picked the password for this account?
For SIP, the password is given to you during the sign up process. I
suggest starting over and paying closer attention.

Sign into your XMPP account in Jitsi or Gajim, and send a messageto
name at domain.

Oh, I guess that 1234567890()xmpp.org is the account you made. Sign into
this one and send a message to name at domain.

Crap, I forgot that the forum removes email addresses. From
1234567890(at)xmpp.org, send a message to +11234567890(at)cheogram.com

So that the forum doesn't replace the address with "name at domain".
I modified the accounts.
11111111111()cheogram.com
psswd I do not have a psswd. Should I have one?
2222222222()xmpp.org
psswd 3333333333
4444444444()sip.org
psswd 5555555555
I want to call and sms phone to number
6666666666
About sms.
If I want to send a sms to an argentinian phone located
in argentina, then I open gajim. Select account
2222222222()xmpp.org, which is the account I
registered on jmp. Then select contact
+546666666666()cheogram.com. Write message and
send it.
If someone wants to send me a sms to my jmp
number and the phone is argentinian and located
in argentina, they sms me on +5411111111111.
About call.
How do you make a call from jmp to a phone? How
to receive a call to your jmp account if
caller calls from a cellular phone?
> 11111111111()cheogram.com psswd I do not have a psswd. Should I have
> one?
I am going to assume that 1111111111 is the phone number you picked when
signing up for JMP. You don't need to sign into this account, and you
aren't supposed to have a password.
> 2222222222()xmpp.org psswd 3333333333
Good.
> 4444444444()sip.org psswd 5555555555
Your SIP address is 2222222222~40xmpp.org()jmp.bwapp.bwsip.io
Your password is three English words separated by spaces. It was given
to you when you signed up. If you did not see the password, start over
and pay closer attention.

Yes.

No, they will SMS +1111111111.
> About call. How do you make a call from jmp to a phone?
In your SIP client, sign into 2222222222~40xmpp.org()jmp.bwapp.bwsip.io,
and call +546666666666.
> How to you receive a call to your jmp account if caller calls from a

They call +1111111111. If your SIP client is running, you will receive
the call. If your SIP client is not running, it will go straight to
voicemail. If they leave you a voice mail, you will receive via XMPP a
transcription and a link to a wav file.
Receiving and sending sms
works.
> Your SIP address is 2222222222~40xmpp.org()jmp.bwapp.bwsip.io
You say, while I registered jmp on
https://jmp.chat/
using my xmpp account, I received a jmp sip account
looking some thing like above? And I received a jmp sip
account psswd? The jmp sip account with psswd you add
as an account in your sip client? Then you can call
cellular phones?
I did not notice I got a
jmp sip account. I will let the jmp 30 days trial expire. Do you
know if I then can reuse the same xmpp account for
jmp registration?
