Hello guys,
New to Trisquel and Gnu/Linux OSystems

I've just replaced the Windows OS with Trisquel 7.0 but I can not write a document or a spreadsheet or in a search machine for example (I cannot anywhere) in Greek language despite the fact that the installation was made in Greek and all environment like menus, tags etc is in Greek
Is there any adjustment I have to do or I need to install the Greek language and how i can do such things ?

Have in mind that I am not a "hacker" :) but I can do anything if it is well documentated.

Thanks in advance for your kind attention
Nikolas

Hello, welcome and congratulations!

A GNU/Linux distro is basically a collection of packages. You'll need to install some that contain Greek support.

There are many ways to do so, probably the most intuitive being the Synaptic package manager.

I guess these packages might be useful for you. (from http://packages.trisquel.info/search?keywords=greek&searchon=all&suite=belenos&section=all)

abrowser-locale-el (if you use abrowser, believe this is default web browser)
icecat-locale-el (if you use icecat web browser)
icedove-l10n-el (if you use icedove email)
language-pack-gnome-el
libreoffice-help-el
libreoffice-l10n-el

xfonts-efont-unicode
xfonts-efont-unicode-ib
fonts-gfs-artemisia
fonts-gfs-bodoni-classic
fonts-gfs-didot
fonts-gfs-didot-classic

Besides installing those packages, you can change the keyboard layout in System settings. (or whatever it's called in Trisquel 7)

My mother uses Trisquel, so you'll do just fine! :)

Hi Nikolas

Some people also have trouble because of the ibus system so you could
disable it
run " im-config " on terminal and set the input method to " none " after
clicking " ok " and " yes "

Or you could do this if the problem still exists

* for just one user
you can set the keyboard layout
System Settings -> Region & Language -> Input Sources

* For system wide

Run this command on terminal
sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

and then set the greek language.

Well, I did set the keyboard layout by
System Settings -> Region & Language -> Input Sources etc but this worked only once, I did write in Greek but not in english afterwards

What I want to do is to be able to toggle between these two languages (Greek and English)
I tried to define the shortcuts for changing languages in keyboard settings but it didn't work at all.

I will try to reinstall the distro using English during installation instead of Greek and I will add Greek language later.

Wish me luck :)

There is, in "Region & language" (itself in the "System settings") a tab to add "Input sources" (use the "+" button). In this same tab, on the right-hand side of the window, the shortcut to switch layout is indicated and there is a link to change this keyboard shortcut.

@Magic Banana I tried this and didn't work then I reinstalled the distro using english environment and added greek language afterwards and worked
So now everything is ok.

Thank you guys for your help

p.s Is there an option to have an indicator of which language is active ?

GNOME Shell has an indicator (and you can click on it to switch the layout).
